He can fix anything! MacGyver reboot of popular '80s show about a 20-something genius gets pilot order from CBS

The original MacGyver starred Richard Dean Anderson as the guy who could get out of any scrape with just a hairpin and duct tape.

Die-hard fans might be in for a treat now that a reboot of the mid-80s series has been officially greenlighted for a pilot by CBS.

The new series has been totally 're-imagined' and follows 'a 20-something MacGyver' with an unusual ability to fix near-disasters using 'unconventional ways,' according to The Hollywood Reporter.

'He gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening,' the publication reported.

The first MacGyver with Anderson in the title role was a hit and ran for seven seasons on CBS, 1985 to 1992.

James Wan of Furious 7 fame is directing and executive producing the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wan, 38, who produced and directed The Saw franchise, is considered one of the most exciting talents in the movie industry.

The Malaysian-born, Australia-raised filmmaker knows how to keep the pace and the plot interesting.

That makes Wan the perfect one to shape the planned pilot and transform it into a series.

Wan, of course, was challenged with the difficult task of completing Furious 7 after the tragic sudden death of his star Paul Walker on November 30, 2013.

The director brought in Walker's two lookalike brothers to continue Paul's role of Brian O'Conner and finished the movie.

Wan is also set to direct the sci-fi adventure Aquaman with Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones) reprising the role he plays in the forthcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Henry Winkler will also serve as executive producer on the reboot - as he did on the original - while R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles) will write the script.

The big question is who will play the genius undercover agent? Wan must have an inkling who best would fill those shoes.

'Aaaaay': Henry Winkler, who played The Fonz in Happy Days and was pictured in 2014, is also on board as executive producer on the reboot as he was on the original series, according to The Hollywood Reporter

One thinks that the contemporary MacGyver will take on a few of his predecessor's qualities like his no guns policy.

The original MacGyver, whose famous quotes included 'brace yourself, this could be fun' and 'If I had some duct tape, I could fix that,' could create a tool of escape using random objects found nearby.

MacGyver could get his hands dirty but he could also cleaned up well enough to wear a tux when the occasion warranted it.

The show, which ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC, made a star out of heartthrob Anderson who even sported a 'mullet' hairstyle.

Although his appearance has changed over the years, Anderson still had that sparkle in his eyes when he was spotted stocking up on groceries in Malibu on April 22.

Anderson, 65, was flaunting a shorter, silver-grey 'do and moustache while strolling across the supermarket car park with his cart, and clad in baggy trousers and large long-sleeved T-shirt.

ABC tried to get a spin-off Young MacGyver starring Jared (Supernatural, Gilmore Girls) Padalecki off and rolling, but it didn't pan out.
