  • Company were ridiculed for waiting 8 hours to respond to free publicity
  • Tweeted: 'Cheddar Bey Biscuits' has a nice ring to it, don't you think?'
  • Red Lobster mocked in hundreds of memes and GIFs for 'weak' response

When Beyonce gives you a shout out you had better be ready.

So when the singer's new song Formation, released before her Super Bowl 50 half time show yesterday, mentioned Red Lobster, everyone waited to see how the restaurant chain would react to such an honor. And waited.

After eight hours, the firm finally responded with this: ''Cheddar Bey Biscuits' has a nice ring to it, don't you think? #Formation.'

Twitter went into meltdown as hundreds of Beyonce fans flooded the firm's page hilarious memes and GIFs mocking their 'late' and 'weak' response.

Sam Diss wrote: 'Red Lobster are ringing their social media manager like 'I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE HAVING DINNER MARK WE NEED YOU RIGHT NOW'

Civil Savage added: 'You only had one job...

While one user, Hoochie Mama, even offered her services to the beleaguered firm.

She tweeted: *Submits application and résumé* Y'all are in need of a Social Media Manager.'

Beyonce surprised fans on Saturday by dropping a video to Formation, which features flood-ridden New Orleans and a line of white cops facing a hooded little boy.

'Let's get in formation... Prove to me you got some coordination,' she chants before the camera pans over graffiti that says: 'stop shooting us'.

Within minutes of the video's release, Twitter was awash with reactions to the fiercely political lyrics and scenes - and a cameo role from the singer's four-year-old daughter with Jay Z, Blue Ivy.

She also gives the infamous shout out to Red Lobster in her lyrics 'when he f*** me good I take his a** to Red Lobster, cause I slay'.

Formation was still trending worldwide on Sunday as the Super Bowl - the most watched TV event of the year - approached.

Red Lobster have since tried to defend their lame tweet, first posting: 'You try to bake Cheddar Bay Biscuits and tweet at the same time! #harderthanitlooks #Formation.'

After that tweet simply provoked more backlash, the restaurant firm finally admitted they had made a mistake.

'Our bad. We're really busy for some reason. #ThanksB #'

Maybe Red Lobster should take inspiration from Southwest Airlines whose social media team were on point immediately after Beyonce's song.

In reference to her lyric - 'I got hot sauce in my bag, swag.' they tweeted: 'Got hot sauce in your bag? Checked: #SWAg Carryon: 3.4 ounces or less. #Formation.'
