Super Bowl MVP Von Miller used the biggest moment of his professional career on Sunday night to show some support for a struggling friend - Johnny Manziel.

Grind, get back to Johnny all the ags know and love, Grind bro, 2yrs ago they counted me out, 2yrs frm now you can do the same!! Support no matter what!'

Miller, 26, and Manziel, 23, became close when the two men played together at Texas A&M.

Manziel responded by liking Miller's post on Instagram and posting a photo of the linebacker holding up his MVP trophy on Instagram, writing; 'Champ.'

Miller - who took home MVP honors on Sunday after a game in which he forced two fumbles and sacked Panthers quarterback Cam Newton two-and-a-half times - was forced to overcome his own personal struggles early in his career.

The 26-year-old, who was the second pick in the 2011 NFL draft behind Newton, quickly established himself as one of the league's best defensive players during his first two seasons, but was forced to sit out six games at the start of the 2013 season after officials learned he had tried to cheat a drug test.

Things only got worse when he returned as he tore his ACL soon after and was forced to sit out the post-season and watch as the Broncos made it to the Super Bowl, where they were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks.

Manziel's struggles however are far more public than Miller's, especially after the Dallas Police Department revealed they were launching a criminal investigation into a domestic assault complaint filed by his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley.

Crowley told authorities that Manziel 'restrained' her while they were in a hotel room on January 30 in Dallas and led her to his car, according to ABC 8.

Crowley said he then drove her to her car, at which point she attempted to hide from her ex, who she broke up with last December after dating for two years.

'He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself,' Crowley reportedly told police.

'He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later.'

Manziel then drove her back to her apartment, where after more arguing Crowley claims she eventually pulled out a knife and scared him off, calling police soon after.

Manziel is denying all of these claims, while Crowley received a two-year order of protection against her ex.

After these allegations became public Manziel was dropped by his agent and his own father said he feared for his son's safety.

'I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday,' Paul Manziel told the Dallas Morning News, adding that his son had twice refused to enter rehab in the days after the alleged assault.

Just days before, the Cleveland Browns also dealt Manziel a harsh, but expected, blow when they revealed they would be dropping him from the team next month.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner has struggled since he was selected by the Browns in the first round of the 2014 draft, playing in just 14 games over the course of his professional career and becoming better known for his partying than his actual game play.

There had been some promise that this season would be better for the quarterback after he completed a lengthy stay in rehab in early 2015, but he was spotted partying on multiple occasions and was involved in another incident with Crowley back in October where she alleged he had slammed her head into a window.

The NFL is still looking into the claims Crowley made back then to see if he violated the league's personal-conduct policy.

They have also reached out however to offer him help as well, with Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, saying over the weekend; 'We wish to give Johnny as much support as he is willing to receive, we can't make anyone do anything.

'I've seen his father make a statement, reach out to the family to make sure the family knows the National Football League, the Cleveland Browns, the players association — everyone's here to support you, but you have to embrace it.'

His team is also trying to reach out to him, but having no luck according to Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, who said on Friday; 'Johnny has not responded to us, but we'll do anything we can to help him personally and our thoughts and prayers are with Johnny and his family.

'We're not worried about Johnny Manziel the football player, we're worried about Johnny Manziel the person, and I think that's all we need to say on the issue.'

Things began to deteriorate between Manziel and the Browns after a December incident in which he allegedly skipped the last game of the season to party in Las Vegas after being declared ineligible to play due to an injury.

Manziel was reportedly spotted trying to go incognito while gambling and drinking by wearing a blond wig.

He has denied claims he was in Vegas, and said he had been at his home in Cleveland alone with his dog.
