The X-Files special agents could be about to become the ex-X-Files special agents.

In the trailer for episode five of the current six part revival miniseries, viewers were introduced to agents Miller and Einstein, who both shared a couple of very familiar traits.

Einstein - played by Six Feet Under's Lauren Ambrose - is a medical doctor with a skeptical view on the supernatural, with a very recognisable shade of red hair.

Her tall and handsome dark-haired young partner meanwhile - played by The Flash's Robbie Amell - also rings a bell as an agent 'obsessed with the paranormal'.

As the two are introduced, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson exchange more than one knowing glance as they watch their two young charges bounce off each other.

In the episode Babylon, an art gallery exhibiting showing potentially offensive artwork is bombed.

'One of the bombers survived,' Special Agent Miller declares in the clip.

'He's dead, except for a heartbeat,' Special Agent Einstein matter of factly shuts him down.

When Mulder proposes he 'can communicate with the terrorist', Einstein is not convinced.

‘I pity that poor Agent Scully,’ she tells her partner.  'It's like my dream assignment! he replies indignant.

In the final frames, Mulder and Einstein are seen clashing over his plan.

'If you are suggesting I were to go through with this lunatic scheme...' she trails off, agitated.

'What is lunatic about it?' Mulder asks.

'Oh let me think... everything! she snaps sarcastically.

But Mulder ensures he has the last word, calling after her: 'So that's a maybe?'

The second-last episode of The X-Files arrives on Fox next Monday.
