They were delighted when Taraji P. Henson accidentally mistook Super Bowl 50 half time entertainment Coldplay for their band.

And Maroon 5 decided to respond to the tweet on Monday, revealing they were actually at the game in Santa Clara watching it.

They wrote on their feed: 'Thanks for loving our performance from our seats at #SB50 @TherealTaraji. We think we sounded pretty good!'

The mix up happened on Sunday as the Empire star rocked out with the rest of the stadium, and accidentally thought Coldplay were Maroon 5.

In her delight at watching them she took to social media and tweeted: '#maroon5 is life to me!!!' Taraji raved on social media as she shared a clip of the Super Bowl halftime show, adding '#Superbowl50' and '#HappyCamper' and some lipstick emojis.

The 45-year-old also shared a beaming Super Bowl selfie with actresses Amy Adams and January Jones.

Taraji wore a black leather jacket with sparkly studs, while Amy showed her support for Denver with an orange Broncos cap.

January meanwhile wore a blue polo neck as the trio beamed at the camera.

The actress, who plays flamboyant matriarch Cookie Lyon on the hit FOX show, later Tweeted about her mix-up.
