It's a knockout! Shirtless Matt Damon recaptures his legacy by delivering brutal KO in new Jason Bourne trailer
It is the return that fans of high octane espionage action have been demanding for years.
And lovers of Matt Damon's beloved character finally got what they were waiting for as he brutally KOed a rival after learning 'the world is at war' in the first ever Jason Bourne trailer.
And it certainly looks like the series will be returning to form following the return of the Oscar-winner and the series most successful director Paul Greengrass.
Bourne again pugilist: Matt Damon smacks an opponent with a mighty hook in the new Jason Bourne trailer
Eating dirt: And his hapless rival ends up lying on his back after being caught on the kisser
The exciting footage dropped during the Super Bowl, and it seems the tough guy character hits even harder than the Denver Broncos defence if the new short is any guide.
The trailer starts with him taking part in an unsanctioned boxing match underground, seemingly oblivious to the outside world after going into John Rambo-esque seclusion.
He is also shown wandering in a remote desert area before taking part in another bout, where he pulverises his opponent.
'Perfect weapon': His old handlers looks set to call on him yet again due to the fact 'the world is at war'
Meeting John Rambo to watch the Super Bowl? He is shown wandering remote areas in self-imposed exile
However he makes a surprise return to the grid during a high-octane firefight, and when Tommy Lee Jones' seemingly senior CIA officer character is informed of this and shown the footage, he says, 'Why would he come back now?'
Of course this is never answered, however one thing that is plain is that he seems to finally remember everything about his old life as a lethal assassin.
He says: 'I know who I am, I remember everything.'
He loves a punch-up: he is shown taking part in another bout at the beginning of the trailer
Memory recovery technique? Perhaps taking brain-scrambling blows to the head has helped Jason recover all of his past memories
Don't cross me: He delivers another powerful hook to the chin of this unfortunate opponent
However a woman, who seems to be his long-running movie sidekick Nicky Parsons, seems keen to draw him back into the fray.
She tells him: 'Remembering everything doesn't mean you know everything.'
And just as it seemed he had finally made it out of espionage for good, she tells him: 'The world is at war. We need a perfect weapon.'
Other stars appearing in the forthcoming feature include Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel, who are making series debuts.
Gunning for gold: A hefty paycheque persuaded Matt to finally return to the popular franchise
Drawing attention: His method of avoiding traffic jams is sure to raise eyebrows
Candid camera: And sure enough his old paymasters at the CIA finally find out he is still alive
Here come the Men In Black: Tommy Lee Jones' character cannot believe his eyes
So far the film's plot is being kept strictly under wraps, and the movie's title was even a secret until the release of the trailer.
It certainly is appropriate given the film follows an off-the-books character who works in the world of espionage.
It will be the first time Matt has starred in a Bourne movie since 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, and comes after the lightly regarded spin-off picture The Bourne Legacy, which starred former makeup artist Jeremy Renner as a relatively generic super agent.
The eagerly awaited film is set to finally hit theatres on July 29.
Blast from the past: A character who seems to be Nicky Parsons tells Jason the world is at war
Forget war: But he still manages to find time to make a stress-busting trip to Las Vegas
Hardly Casino Royale: However once again chaos follows the hitman character wherever he goes
