Monsters, Inc. and Big Hero 6 screenwriter dies at age 49 from brain cancer, leaving behind a wife and two children

Daniel Gerson, who co-wrote several Walt Disney animated films including 'Monsters, Inc.' and 'Big Hero 6,' has died. He was 49.
Gerson's family said in a statement that he died at his Los Angeles home on Saturday after battling brain cancer.
Gerson was a frequent contributor for Pixar Animation, co-writing both 2001's 'Monsters, Inc.' and its 2013 sequel, 'Monsters University.'

Along with Robert L. Baird and Jordan Roberts, Gerson co-wrote Disney's Oscar-winning 'Big Hero 6,' an animated superhero tale that made $658million and won the Oscar for best animated feature.
The writing partners met in 1998 and started collaborating on projects two years later. Their Monsters films made $1.3billion at the box office.
They also contributed to the films Chicken Little, Cars, Open Season, Meet the Robinsons, Up and Inside Out.
Gerson was born on the Upper West Side of New York City and attended Cornell before getting his masters in film at New York University.
He got his start as a writer for the NBC comedy 'Something So Right' and also wrote for other television shows such as Private Dick/Family Man and The New Addams Family.
Gerson is survived by his wife, Beau Stacom, and two children.
Donations can be made in his memory at UCLA's brain tumor program.
