He's described her as 'the best thing that's ever happened' to him.

And Coronation Street's Mikey North, 29, tied the knot with Rachael Isherwood in front of 100 guests at Curradine Barns in Shrawley, Worcestershire, on January 29.

The actor, who plays Gary Windass in the ITV soap, revealed he found it tough keeping his emotions in check on the big day.

In an interview with OK!, he said: ‘Rachael looked amazing. I’m known for letting my emotions run away with me, so I was really concentrating on trying not to cry.’

The pair met in a Manchester bar three years ago, and Mikey popped the question two years later while the couple were on holiday in the Lake District.

Down on one knee in the wet weather, Mikey was reduced to tears of joy when Rachael said yes.

And they wasted no time in planning for the occasion, with a wedding dress the first item on the shopping list.

Rachael said: ‘I started trying on dresses as soon as I had the engagement ring on my finger!’

And Mikey explained that choosing a venue was relatively plain-sailing: ‘It was the first place that we saw. It was perfect and we knew that we didn’t need to see anywhere else.’

However, it appeared that the stress of planning the perfect ceremony did take its toll on the Corrie star in the most unusual of ways.

‘Mikey has been sleepwalking a little bit more these days,' joked Rachael.

And Mikey confessed: ‘I’ve always done it. In the past I’ve walked out of the house only wearing my pants!’

Guests at the wedding included corrie actors Bruno Langley, who plays Todd Grimshaw, and Sam Ashton, who plays Chesney Brown.

Another familiar face from the famous cobbled street took on the responsibility of being Mikey's best man.

Ian Puleston-Davies, Mikey’s on-screen stepdad Owen Armstrong, was by his side for the big day.

While the wedding went without a hitch, Mikey revealed he had a wild weekend in Prague with ten pals for one of two stag dos.

‘I did end up getting spanked by a stripper/dancer with my own belt,' he admitted. 'She pulled my pants down in front of half of the Czech Republic and I had strap marks all over my rear end!’
