EastEnders actor Jake Wood beats Ed Sheeran and Jon Richardson to be named the UK's ultimate 'weird crush'

He is known for playing one of soapland's most unappealing characters.

So it's probably fitting that TV actor Jake Wood has retained his title as the UK’s most popular Weird Crush, which was revealed on Tuesday.

The EastEnders star first bagged the top spot in 2015, stealing the crown from comedian Matt Richardson, but has secured it once again thanks to a poll by Heat Magazine and radio.

The poll, an antidote to the traditional Valentine’s Day ‘Sexiest Male’ lists, was run throughout January and claims to 'honour the world’s most unconventionally sexy men'.

Previous winners have included Derren Brown, Karl Pilkington, Jeremy Clarkson and Pointless co-host Richard Osman.

But, not only did he keep his win over Jon, but he also beat chart-topper Ed Sheeran, who came in third place.

Commenting on his win, Jake said: 'I must be the weirdest crush in the history of weird crushes. I’m quite honoured. Last year I was delighted, and this year I’m even more bowled over. Lost for words.

'I must be slightly weirder then Ed (Sheeran) and that’s a great honour to me. I’m obviously the hottest weirdest ginger.'

Elsewhere in the Top Five were actor Richard Ayoade and comic Greg Davies, who were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
