Made In Chelsea star Mark-Francis Vandelli has become the fourth celebrity to leave The Jump after fracturing his ankle.

The 26-year-old was taken to hospital after injuring himself in a tumble during the Snow Cross challenge on Sunday's show and will not be returning to the competition.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: 'Whilst racing during the show on Sunday evening, Mark-Francis fell, injuring his ankle. He received immediate medical attention but sadly will not be able to continue in the competition due to an ankle fracture which has now been treated.'

Fellow contestant Brian McFadden sparked speculation that Vandelli had undergone an operation when he posted a now-deleted picture of the reality star on a hospital bed.

According to the Mirror, he captioned the picture: 'Even post surgery @MarkVandelli looks like a Versace model!!!'

On Monday night, Vandelli posted a picture on Instagram of him sightseeing in Innsbruck, Austria, but did not mention his injury.

McFadden posted another photo on Monday as he appeared to joke about the string of injuries that has hit the show. Sharing a photo of himself on a hospital bed, the singer wrote: 'Just arrived at jump HQ. training for next weeks event. The hospital bed race.'

His withdrawal sees him join a long list of injured celebrities forced to pull out the winter sports show.

Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, 30, is currently in hospital following neck surgery which involved having a piece of bone taken from her hip after a fall on the slopes.

Fellow Olympian Rebecca Adlington and Holby City actress Tina Hobley have also withdrawn because of injury, while athlete Linford Christie has been forced to take time out due to a hamstring injury but hopes to return to the show.

Channel 4 bosses have ordered an urgent review into safety procedures on The Jump.

Fans flocked to social media over the weekend demanding that the show is axed, now top bosses at the broadcaster have insisted producers re-access every event and their training plan in light of a spate of serious injuries.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: 'Though it is a new course, the events have been designed to be no more difficult than in previous years and all contributors have undertaken rigorous training to prepare for the show.

'All winter sports carry some form of risk but in light of the number of injuries this year, Channel 4 has asked producers to review safety procedures again to further reduce the prospects of accident.'

Following her surgery on Sunday night, Beth reached out to fans to thank them for their support.

She said: 'Thank you so much for your support and concern.

'The last 48 hours have been very scary but all the messages have really helped to keep me positive. I will keep you updated on my progress.'

Beth's parents, Ann and Jerry, added: 'The early medical indications were positive as Beth was able to move her hands and feet, despite being in a lot of discomfort.

'The medical staff have been fantastic and explained to us that Beth was waiting for an operation as there were more serious cases ahead of her.

'At 20:00 GMT last night Beth was taken down for surgery where they took a piece of bone from her hip and used it to fuse the two vertebrae that were fractured, along with pinning them together.

'It was a scary time for all of us and we're just very grateful that the operation was a success.'

Beth herself, perfectly executed a jump during training but crashed into a barrier on landing.

The statement at the time read: 'Beth had a fall on the slopes whilst in training for The Jump. She is stable and due to undergo routine surgery on her back.'

A Channel 4 spokeswoman added: 'The health and safety of the competitors is always paramount and Beth was immediately taken to hospital for treatment after hurting herself during training.'

She did not appear on Sunday's episode of the reality show, which has become famous for contestants leaving due to serious injuries.

Sunday's episode showed former Coronation Street star Tina Hobley in agony as she was given air while being carted off the slopes in an ambulance.

Meanwhile, former Olympian Linford Christie is set to miss out on the upcoming challenges after hurting his hamstring this week. He is set to undergo treatment but has vowed to return the series, which is being dubbed TV's most dangerous show.

Christie told The Sun: 'I pulled my hamstring. I didn't even know I had hamstrings at my age. All of the sudden I did a ski jump. I landed funny and I can't even touch my toes. I felt a pop. I've had a scan and get some treatment tomorrow. I should be back for next week. I am coming back.'

Fans flocked to Twitter to call on producers to scrap the programme - now in it's third series - due to the sheer amount of injuries among contestants.

One viewer wrote: 'Can Channel 4 just cancel this god awful show please,' while another tweeted added: 'Surely it's time to cancel this ridiculously dangerous show before someone's seriously injured.

Last week's episode of the show – which is filmed at the Austrian ski resort Kuhtai – was watched by 2.1million people. The series is due to run for a further five weeks.

Rebecca Adlington will be replaced by former contestant Heather Mills, who herself was knocked out in the first round in 2014 and was forced to compete in a unfamiliar prosthetic limb after breaking hers during training.

Mills, the former wife of Sir Paul McCartney, said: 'I am overjoyed to be asked back by Channel 4 to join the competitors on The Jump, as I always felt it was unfinished business.

'Finishing second overall in the only event I got to compete in, The Skeleton, and having to jump wearing someone else's foot, was pretty bad luck. I never even got to compete in skiing.

'I know I can do much better, and I am working with my prosthetist (Abdo Haidar of The London Prosthetic Centre) to create a foot that has more movement like a human's.'

Adlington said she was 'so sad to be leaving on injury.'

She said: 'I'm so proud of myself with the challenges I have overcome, from skeleton to jumping and learning how to ski. I'm very grateful to have met the most incredible people as well. It was so difficult but so much fun at the same time.'

Hobley will be replaced by The Wanted's Tom Parker. A replacement for Tweddle of Vandelli has not yet been announced.

It's not only this year that the show has been overshadowed by nasty injuries.

Socialite Henry Conway broke a bone in his hand and Melinda Messenger withdrew as a result of concussion suffered on the bobsleigh track last year.

While in 2014, two of the finalists, Sir Steve Redgrave and comedian Marcus Brigstocke, were also unable to complete the contest following injuries.

Heather - who was famously married to Paul McCartney, will no doubt be a welcome addition to this year's series after several of the stars have been struck down by horrific injuries
