'This is funny... nope it's not, delete!': Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka, 16, admits she is 'scared of Twitter'

To be fair, the concept of social media would have frightened anybody growing up in the Sixties.

So Kiernan Shipka should not be judged for admitting she is scared of Twitter. Despite micro blogging traditionally being the forte of the young, the 16-year-old conceded that she constantly second guesses her tweets.

'I’m scared of twitter,' she revealed in an interview with Dazed magazine.

'I’ll type something and think, "This is funny," then I’ll think about it for too long and go, "Nope, it’s not!' Delete.'

The Mad Men star, who played daughter to Jon Hamm's Don Draper - Sally - on all seven seasons, currently has almost 36,000 followers on Twitter.

However she hasn't posted a Tweet since mid October.

Heat things up in Kiernan's bright orange Carven skirt

She might be scared of Twitter, but Kiernan Shipka is definitely not scared of fashion. The teen actress graces the cover of the latest issue of Dazed magazine and in it she wears pieces from the Spring collections of Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Carven.

We love the citrus-y hue of Kiernan's high-waisted skirt and the eyelet detail along the hemline adds a flirty feminine twist. Paired with a skinny tank top and a white belt, it's a fresh look that will truly sparkle during the warm weather months ahead.

Preorder her Carven skirt at Neiman Marcus for just under $500 by clicking right. And if that price is a bit too steep, get the look below for less. Vince Camuto's laser cut version would go great with a button down blouse and classic pumps for chic office appropriate attire.

'Not being on social media is a bold statement,' she claimed. 'If you’re not on there now, people are like, "You're not?!" It’s insane.'

The actress grew up alongside her onscreen persona; she was the only person to ever play Sally, while eight different boys played her brother Bobby.

'I've always been funny about ageing up,' she admitted. 'When I turned three, I was not happy about it. But I came to terms with it eventually!'

However she is happy she lives in an age where - finally - decent roles for women are starting to become the norm.

'I’ve always been a feminist and I’m lucky to live in this time,' she said. 'The characters I’ve always been drawn to are real and flawed.

'That’s not how women have always been portrayed. Now there are more roles for interesting, strong females. The more roles out there like that, the cooler.'

She also revealed that while she catches up on studies and would like to start a band - she is currently learning electric guitar - she is not quite sure what she wants to do next.

'Everything is so unpredictable,' she conceded. 'One minute you think you’re gonna do something and the next it’s out of your control. Whatever happens, you have to do a lot of hard work. So you may as well do things that are enriching and cool. If you can.

'Sometimes I stress about the future, but I like the age that I am,' she added. 'Being a teen is not gonna last forever. Who knows what I’m gonna be consumed with next?'

While she can hardly be described as having a normal teenage life, she did have one criticism of what she has seen of school dances.

'It's fun, but there’s not enough dancing. Kids are hesitant to bust it out,' she said. 'As soon as someone puts on Drake, though, that’s a different story. Everyone gravitates towards the dancefloor.'
