She went for a rather bizarre look at Monday night's Met Gala, wearing a clinging gold dress complete with a hood. 

So Anne Hathaway can be forgiven for wanting to return to her more normal wardrobe the next day, as she stepped out in NYC in plain shorts and a baggy white blouse.

The Les Miserables star was seen showing off her bare legs in small denim shorts as she navigated the busy streets.

The 32-year-old actress strode along in white sneakers, concealed her eyes behind aviator shades, and carried a brown tote bag. 

She had her headphones in, perhaps keeping herself entertained with music. 

Anne was headed to the Public Theatre for a performance of her new one woman play, Grounded, which opened on April 26th to rave reviews.

She stars as an ace fighter pilot reassigned to a remote-controlled drone who faces twelve-hour shifts hunting targets from her Air Force trailer followed by twelve in the suburbs with her family.

Anne was back to her daily routine after attending the star-studded Met Gala on Monday, alongside her husband, Adam Shulman.

Anne arrived to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the gown, which clung to her slender frame, as she kept her cowl affixed atop her head.

Completing the Interstellar actress' attire was a matching gold clutch and large gold earrings as she walked the red carpet.

Star Wars day falls on May fourth each year (a play on 'May the Force be with you') and often sees fans of all kinds (including celebrities) pay tribute to the sci-fi fantasy films with often garish costumes.

Later Anne was spotted en route to to an after party at the Standard Hotel with husband Adam.

She ditched her Jedi robe for an equally intriguing item: a pair of enormous silky white MC Hammer Parachute pyjama pants.

The Met Gala event, which is chaired by the Vogue editor-in-chief, is an annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.

This year's theme was China: Through The Looking Glass, with outfits reflecting an East Asian influence.
