Creepy video shows how deadly redback spiders capture baby SNAKES in their webs before feasting on them

  • Footage shows dozens of snakes trapped in the webs of redback spiders
  • They were writhing on the floor of a shed in Dongara in Western Australia
  • The more the snakes struggled, the more entrapped they became
  • Redback spiders are highly venomous and usually prey on small insects

You could be forgiven for thinking that a couple of redback spiders would struggle to hold their own in a battle against dozens of baby snakes.

But bizarre footage reveals a number of snakes thrashing around on the floor of a shed, tangled up and unable to escape from webs weaved by the lethal spiders.

Jennifer Fox and her husband were moving from their home in Dampier to Dongara, about 350 kilometres north of Perth, when they stumbled upon the incredible scene.

'We had come down to move in more of our belongings and when we opened the door to the shed their were dozens of baby snakes caught in webs,' she told the West Australian

'Some were still alive and the harder they wriggled the more entrapped they came.'

Mrs Fox uploaded images of the encounter - which happened last year - to the Western Australian Insects Facebook group.

She said since they had fully relocated to their new property, there were definitely less snakes hanging around the shed, but they still showed up occasionally.

It is unclear what type of snakes were caught in the spider's trap, but some online users suggested they could have been juvenile western brown snakes - a highly venomous and deadly reptile.

Redback spiders are indigenous to Australia and have extremely powerful venom that is capable of killing humans if not treated with antivenom quickly.
