She told the talk show host: 'No [I won't be returning]. I'm going to play Jackie Kennedy - we start in April.

'I think they are already filming Ray Donovan. I can't do both.'

The Showtime show remains a fan favourite and follows Ray Donovan, a former thug turned fixer for Hollywood's elite.

Katie can next be seen in the film Touched By Fire in which she plays a woman suffering from bipolar, who falls for another bipolar suffer.

The 37-year-old said she spent some time preparing for the tough role.

'Preparing for the role took a lot, there was a lot of research and I worked with someone to help me break it down and wrap my head around it. You don't want to take on a role like this and not do your best because so many people are suffering from this.'
