Deadpool will make his big screen debut in his own superhero movie this week and a sequel already has been approved.

The R-rated action comedy focused on a smart-mouthed, mentally unstable Marvel Comics character stars Ryan Reynolds, 34, in the title role.

And Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been writing the follow-up, according to an article on Tuesday by The Hollywood Reporter.

The film's director Tim Miller has not yet been signed to direct the sequel, but 20th Century Fox intends to keep the creative team together.

Deadpool was in a development black hole for more than a decade with Reynolds attached to play the chimichanga-loving mercenary since 2004.

Reese and Wernick were hired to write the script in 2010 and Miller was brought on board to make his directorial debut on the film in April 2011.

The highly anticipated movie was tracking to open with at least a $65 million box office haul over the upcoming holiday weekend.

Reynolds also is a producer of the movie and has been furiously promoting the film ahead of its release on Wednesday in the UK and on Friday in the US.

He appeared on Live With Kelly And Michael on Tuesday morning and told the chat show hosts that he kept Deadpool's trademark red costume after trying to get the movie made for 11 years.

Reynolds also joined his castmates Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin and TJ Miller on Tuesday as they discussed Deadpool at the AOL Build Speaker Series in New York City.

The actor also was set to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night to promote the film.

Reynolds has been married since 2012 to actress Blake Lively and they have a 13-month-old daughter James together.
