Johnny Depp will star in The Invisible Man as Universal Pictures attempts to revive its classic movie monsters.
Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan will produce the film adaptation based on the 1897 HG Wells science fiction novel The Invisible Man, according to an article on Tuesday by Deadline.
Universal Pictures first brought the character to the big screen in a 1933 film directed by James Whale and starring Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart.

Rains in the film portrayed Dr. Jack Griffin who discovers the secret of invisibility while testing an obscure drug, but loses his sanity in the process.
A director has yet to be attached to the new project.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Ed Solomon who wrote Men In Black was writing the script for The Invisible Man.

Depp, 52, is coming off the success of Black Mass and next will be seen in Alice Through The Looking Glass due out in May and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales due for release on May 26, 2017.
Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley has made reanimating the studio's classic franchises a priority.
The studio recently announced that its reboot of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise is scheduled for release on June 9, 2017.

Kurtzman also has been tapped to direct The Mummy.
The Mummy was an early hit for Universal Pictures when it was released in 1932 starring Boris Karloff as the Egyptian high priest Imhotep.
Universal also made a loose remake of The Mummy in 1999 starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
