The Married at First Sight star who was accused of trying to cheat on his wife has claimed that he asked out another woman because he just wanted to learn more about his new bride.

On Tuesday night's episode of the FYI reality series, David Norton, 29, tried to defend himself after his wife Ashley Doherty, 30, confronted him about asking another woman out for drinks. While David maintained that it wasn't true in 'the romantic sense', Ashley revealed that she was sent his exact message.

'It said: "I want to call you up and ask you out for drinks," and that does not sound like it was a friends outing,' she told her husband of 33 days.

David admitted to the cameras that he had reached out to a mutual friend of theirs but claimed he was just trying to learn more about his wife. However, Ashley wasn't buying it and refused to talk to him.

'I am trying to talk to somebody who doesn't want to speak to me,' David said with frustration. 'She won't even hold my hand let alone kiss me.'

The next day, David gave Ashley a handwritten note detailing his feelings and intentions, but the gesture only irritated his wife more.

'Ashley questions why I would ask that girl information about Ashley, but why wouldn't I just talk to Ashley, which is frustrating to me because I have, for the last four weeks, tried to talk to Ashley,' David told the cameras.

As they argued in the kitchen she demanded that her husband should try and get to know her by asking her questions.

'Oh please, every time I ask you a question it's: "I dunno. Yes. Maybe,"' David responded. 'I don't know anything about you. I don't know anything about your friends. I don't know anything about your family.

Sounds fishy: When Ashley first confronted David, she revealed that his message to the woman said: 'I want to call you up and ask you out for drinks'

'I don't know anything about your dad. I don't know anything about your brother. I don't know anything about your best friends - because you don't talk to them.'

And it was David's excuses that really threw Ashley over the edge.

'I am not perfect. I got mad. I raised my voice, but I have never said intentionally hurtful things like that to him and that just changes everything for me,' she admitted to the cameras.

While Ashley told David that the way he treated her is exactly the reason why she doesn't want anything to do with him right now, he argued that she was 'running away' instead of talking.

'I am not running away. We've already talked about it in circles,' she said. 'You're a liar, and I have nothing else to say to you.'

David interjected to say that he is 'not a liar' and noted that it is 'indicative' of their relationship that she was running away instead of talking to him.

'You know you have been caught in a lie, and I refuse to be around it,' she said angrily, while David continued to defend himself by saying: 'It is not as if I went out on a date'.

Ashley told the cameras that she doesn't believe David is a bad person, however, she added that she doesn't want to be in a relationship with a person that she 'can't trust'.

David continued to try to engage Ashley in a conversation, but she insisted that if he really wanted things to work between them, he would give her some space.

'I am sorry I hurt you, 100 per cent,' David said, but Ashley immediately shut him down.

'I told you I need some space!' she yelled. 'I am not going to get over this in 24 hours. How much clearer can I get?'

David finally decided to give Ashley they space she was asking for and made plans to visit his family in Buffalo. Before his trip he awkwardly tried to say goodbye to his wife, who was sleeping in bed. However, it was in that moment that Ashley revealed she had spoken to the woman David was in contact with.

'By the way I talked to the girl, and she told me she didn't even know who you were until you added her on Facebook,' Ashley said of the damning evidence that pokes numerous holes in David's story.

While he was in Buffalo, David spoke to his brother about the situation, and even his sibling said he used a terrible choice of wording.

David also visited his father's grave, explaining that losing his father as a child was - and still is - the most difficult thing he has ever had to go through.

'I was lost and I still am dad. I am sure that you know but my marriage has gone to s**t, and I sure which you were here to help,' David said tearfully in the graveyard. 'I want to be a family man like you. I would do anything for Ashley and to have a family. I have never tried harder at anything.'

However, David told the cameras that the pain and suffering he was feeling showed him that he has true feelings for his wife.

'I just want her back,' he said, adding: 'I know where my intentions were, and I didn't do anything wrong personally, but my wife thinks I did and that's what matters, and I need to just swallow my price and ego and admit I was wrong.'

While David was away, Ashley spoke with her friend about David's actions, and while she believes he ruined the trust that they shared, she said she was willing to give him another chance.

'If David wants to regain my trust, I am willing to give him that opportunity,' she said, noting: 'It's going to be tough.'

Meanwhile, it looked like the honeymoon was over for Tres Russell, 27,and Vanessa Nelson, 26. Last week, she stormed out of the house and retreated to her old apartment after she accused him of not having a husband mentality.

During their Fourth of July part they day before, Tres' friend Danielle made a passing comment about seeing the love between them, and he jokingly said that love was a 'big word'. However, his wife was not amused by him downplaying his feelings for her and left the house.

On Tuesday's episode, the couple had a meeting with the show's sexologist and relationship expert Dr. Logan Levkoff to try and work through their issues.

'You know when you get married, or when I was thinking about getting married, I always imagined that I would just be head over heels in love like nobody can tell me anything, but I don't think we are at that point yet,' Vanessa admitted to the cameras.

'I am optimistic that we are going to grow and hopefully fall in love one day,' she added. 'You know I just don't want to hang on to the negativity.'

When Dr. Levkoff arrived and asked what was going on, Tres awkwardly responded: 'Uh, we had a little disagreement.

A flashback to their argument sees Vanessa expressing her feelings about how hurt she was of Tres' dismissal of their feelings for each other.

'Yes, we are not in love. We are not, but that's the whole point of this thing, so eventually we can,' she told him. 'I feel like you kind of were just like p*****g all over it, You kind of just s**t over it. It was lame.'

Tres told Dr. Levkoff that because they didn't really talk about it their frustrations built up until they hit their breaking points.

'I dependently want this marriage badly because everything I tried before just wasn't working,' he told the cameras.

Vanessa admitted that she decided to sleep in her apartment to clear her head, but Dr. Levkoff told the cameras that her actions were the worst possible thing she could do to her husband, who was abandoned by his own mother twice.

'I was kind of hurt because I was left in the past,' Tres admitted.

Dr. Levkoff advised them to go out and have fun with each other while doing small romantic gestures to let the other person know that they care.

While Vanessa played basketball with Tres, he brought home medicine, sushi, and flowers when he learned she wasn't feeling well.

Their undeniable spark was reignited, and Tres gushed that his wife is 'the complete package'.

Things are also looking up for Neil Bowlus, 31, and wife Samantha Role, 30. Like David and Ashley, they have yet to kiss, however, they are far more affectionate with each other, which they both see as a positive sign.

They were hugging each other often, and as Neil noted to Dr. Levkoff, they weren't like casual side-hugs, they were emotionally charged embraces.

'Neil is growing on me,' Sam said. 'I think he's hilarious in his own way, and those are the quirks I admire about him - the ones that I was not fond of at the beginning because they were different.'

Sam went on to say that she used to hate the way he looked at her with eyes wide open, but now she finds it cute. Despite their progress, and Sam's admittance that she was 'getting closer in that sense of intimacy', Dr. Levkoff was concerned about their living situation.

After moving out of their 'creepy' marital home, Neil had been sleeping at Sam's apartment with her roommate, but the couple finally decided to get a place of their own where they would both be happy.

'I think Neil and I have really bonded,' Sam told the cameras. 'I am giving him the respect that he needs, and I'm doing the things that I need to do for Neil so that he can open up, and I've seen a change in Neil since I've done that.'

Meanwhile, Neil also noted the positive change between him and his wife, who used to teach and emasculate him every chance she got.

'This feels like the beginning stages of what a marriage should be,' he said of their budding relationship.
