News feeds and alerts

Want AFP news delivered to you the moment it’s published?

News feeds are RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds which allow you to conveniently access AFP National Media news items as soon as they are published, by having them delivered straight to you.

RSS feeds save you time on the web as they are an alternative way to distribute web content without requiring you to constantly visit the website to see what’s new. RSS feeds contain headlines and hyperlinks which then direct you to the article.

You can subscribe to timely updates from the AFP website. Whenever we update our news items, the information is automatically updated and displayed in your reader.

How do I get a news reader or aggregator?

RSS feeds can be read using software called an ‘RSS reader’ or ‘aggregator’. This software can be web-based, desktop-based or mobile-device-based. A quick search of the web will find many free or inexpensive news readers that offer various capabilities. Once setup, the software automatically checks the feeds and lets you read any news items which have been added.

There is a range of different news readers and aggregators available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different software works on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer or phone.

How do I start using AFP National Media news feeds?

Once you have chosen and loaded the software, you need to link your news reader/aggregator to the AFPs’ news feeds. To do this, please follow these steps:

  1. Click onView the feed or view RSS feed.
  2. Click and drag the URL of the feed into your news reader. Alternatively cut and paste the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.
Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, automatically check for feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to feeds much easier.

For more details on these, please check their websites.
