Republican frontrunner Donald Trump is continuing his attacks on Texas Senator Ted Cruz days before the South Carolina primary. Trump held a rally in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, where he called Cruz the "most dishonest person I've ever met in politics." Trump is again calling for the Iowa Republican Party to disqualify Cruz's win in the Iowa caucus two weeks ago. Cruz's campaign sent an email rumor during the caucuses that retired neurosurgeon, fellow candidate Ben Carson was suspending his presidential campaign, and Trump believes that altered the results.
Trump spoke for 45-minutes and then participated in a question-and-answer period. During his talk, Trump told the crowd at his rally, "I've been in a business where you know, it's pretty sharp. You meet sharp people, I don't mean sharp like sharp, although they're that also. But you meet people that really go to the edge. I've never met people like politicians, they are the most dishonest people I've ever met ... I think Jeb (Bush) is just Jeb. But this guy Ted Cruz is the most dishonest person I've ever met in politics." Later at a press conference, Trump continued his attacks saying, he "never ever met a person that lies more than Ted Cruz."
The Republican frontrunner then explained the basis for Cruz being the most dishonest, primarily the way he won the Iowa caucuses. While the caucuses were still in progress, the Cruz campaign sent out emails saying that Carson was dropping out of the presidential race basing it on the misinterpreted words of a CNN report. Most of Cruz's GOP opponents took him to task for those emails, including Carson, who wanted the Texas senator to fire those responsible. Instead, Cruz apologized to Carson, even doing so personally in the next GOP debate after he caucuses.
Trump is still asserting that what Cruz and his campaign did amounts to voter fraud. Trump has been calling for the Iowa Republican Party to disqualify Cruz since news broke of what his campaign did. Trump still maintains those results need to be thrown out, and that he be moved up from second place to the winner of the caucuses.
Trump reiterated this at his rally, Cruz "apologized to Carson after the event, he should have apologized to me. If Iowa had any guts, the people from the Republican Party, they should disqualify him from winning Iowa. I really mean it. Because what he did was a fraud." Since the Iowa caucuses, Trump has regularly called Cruz a liar over the Carson debacle; it does not seem likely Trump will stop anytime soon. Trump is currently leading in South Carolina's polls by over 20 percent over second place Cruz.
