Jobs @ AFP

One organisation – a million possibilities

The AFP can take its employees to exciting places, provide diverse duties and work with interesting people. We are one organisation, with a million possibilities.

A career with the AFP can lead to working with the community, across the country or around the globe.

Whether in a non-policing support role, investigating transnational crime, combatting terrorism and people smuggling, investigating crimes against the ACT community and patrolling its city and suburban streets, providing high visibility protection to commonwealth infrastructure sites and establishments, or heading overseas to liaison posts or capacity building missions, you'll be on the frontline, contributing to keeping the Australian community safe.

We are committed to fostering and maintaining a diverse workforce and aim to create a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

The AFP Workforce Diversity Program develops, implements and reviews the goals, strategies, and measures designed to include, recruit and retain members from diverse backgrounds. While there are many diversity groups in Australia, we specifically recognise the additional challenges faced by five groups in the workplace. These are women, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australians (A&TSI), gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans* and intersex (GLBTI) people, people with disability (including mental health difficulties), and those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

As one of Australia's law enforcement agencies, we maintain a robust integrity framework. Our employees must demonstrate the highest level of professional standards, both in their professional and private lives to safeguard organisational integrity and security. We therefore ensure a stringent assessment process of all applicants seeking to join the organisation and this is aligned to our Employment Character Guidelines (PDF, 100KB).

* Trans is used as an umbrella term to cover a diverse range of experiences of sex and gender and ways of describing oneself such as trans, transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, gender questioning etc. Based on Aizura, A.Z., Walsh, J., Pike, A., Ward, R., & Jak, 2010. Gender Questioning. A joint project of Trans Melbourne Gender Project, Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria & Rainbow Network Victoria.
