'It's the greatest thing I ever did': Adele says motherhood gave her life 'purpose' as she admits pressure to impress son Angelo prompted music return

She holds the record for longest-held No1 album by a woman in US history and broke first-week sales records last year, not to mention eight Brit Awards, an Academy Award and 10 Grammys.

But Adele considers motherhood 'the greatest thing I ever did,' saying that she finally gained 'purpose' when she welcomed son Angelo in October 2012.

The 27-year-old, who's just kicked off her When We Were Young tour, opened about having family in a new interview with The Sun, in which she hints at more new music.

Hinting at what's next, Adele continued: 'There may be a new song towards the end of the shows,' adding: 'I haven't written anything yet though.'

The mum-of-one used her four acceptance speeches at last week's BRIT Awards to express how much having a child had changed her.

Bursting into tears, she was delighted to be presented with the Global Success Award by astronaut Tim Peake, more so because her son would think she was 'so cool.'

She said: 'I can't work out if I'm crying because of that video [of her career highlights] or because Tim Peake did it. My kid is going to think I'm so cool.

'I got so lost for a while and didn't know if I could come back and for you all to be so kind to me is amazing. I want to thank my manager and my amazing boyfriend.'

Adele started her tour in Ireland this week and proved that her family will be following her wherever she goes as she was seen enjoying a day out in Dublin with Angelo on Wednesday.

She played Belfast on Monday and Tuesday night to rave reviews and a sell-out crowd. She will continue on in Europe until June and then onto the North American leg from the start of July.
