The THREE generations who say they are mistaken for sisters: Woman reveals she shares her slinky dresses with her teenage daughter and her 65-year-old mother

  • Gwen Slade, 65, Jemima, 44, and Lily, 16, from London all boast blonde hair and size 8 figures
  • Jemima says her mother looks 'sexier' in a tight-fitting red dress than she does
  • Daughter Lily, 16, talks about 'everything from sex to relationships' with the pair

A grandmother, mother and daughter say that despite being almost 50 years apart in age, they still love wearing each other's clothes and regularly get mistaken for sisters.

Gwen Slade, 65, from central London, is mother to Jemima, 44, and grandmother to Lily, 16.

But despite the difference in ages, the trio all boast long blonde hair, size 8 figures, and often disagree over who can pull off an outfit better.

‘We often get together and enjoy who wears it better nights trying on each other’s outfits,’ Gwen explained.

‘It used to be that mums, daughters and nannas dressed "age appropriately" but for us, our style is the same and we all look awesome.'

Despite being old enough for a bus pass and a pension, the 65-year-old still works in a hair salon alongside her daughter and teenage granddaughter.

‘We’re constantly competing for who can wear a dress the best, and shock many people with the fact we can all wear the same outfit and look amazing,’ said Jemima, 44.

‘We’re more like sisters, get mistaken for sisters, and are proud we can share each other’s clothes. My mum is one hot momma, and my daughter Lily looks amazing in all my clothes.

‘I’ll buy a dress, shoes or top and have to keep it under lock and key until I can wear it first, otherwise Mum or my teen daughter steals it.

'If I do let them wear it I guarantee one of them will wear it better and look better, sexier or hotter in it,’ said Jemima, who admits some people would probably criticise the trio for sharing the same outfits and all having enviable bodies.

The mum-of-one says she has a red dress which her mum and daughter look 'awesome' in; despite it being 'unforgiving and tight-fitting' on her.

She confessed: 'I am proud, but also a little jealous, that if Mum or Llly wear it they look as good or better than me. But that’s what keeps me on my toes, and I'm proud of our unique, three-way transgenerational relationship.

‘We have all rocked a grey jumper dress and thigh-high boots and constantly get told we’re sisters,’ said Gwen, who admits most women at her age go for sensible shoes and floral dresses.

‘Then the blue-black dress with sequins - well, when both Jemima and Lily put it on, I was blown away. Jemima looked fantastic and Lily looked glamorous.

'Then I tried it on and realised I still had the body to show it off. I am proud we can share clothes and prove there is no such thing as a generational difference. My daughter and granddaughter make me feel young at heart and I have to keep up with them.'

Not only do the trio party together and go out together, but they insist they are all best friends too. They put their good physiques down to exercise, hard work, dancing and eating well.

Lily said: ‘I think my grandmother is awesome. She isn’t old and greying, but hip and on trend. I can talk to her about anything and the same with mum.

'Having them in my life like I do has brought us closer and made me more confident,’ explained Lily.

Jemima agreed, saying: ‘My mum is my best friend and Lily is my best friend as well. Three generations of women is what keeps me focused.

'My mum isn’t a nanna, she is a cool gran; and my daughter is my BFF. Mum has been my rock, and the closeness we all share is unique.

Grandma Gwen added: ‘I think many families have a very traditional grandmotherly figure. That model doesn’t work for us. For us it’s about having fun together and treating each day like Mother’s Day.'

She added: ‘There may be a 49-year age gap between me and my granddaughter, but she keeps me young and we all talk about everything.

'I am pleased we’re different from traditional families; as a trio we work better together and party better together.’

Lily says she talks to her mum and grandmother about everything from 'sex, to men, relationships and drinking,' adding: 'Gran likes to tell Mum when she is dating the wrong or right bloke, and they are both on me and I tell them what I think about studying, clothes and behaviour.'

Her mum, meanwhile, treats the 16-year-old to £110 haircuts and colourings, as well as expensive manicures and facials.

She insisted: ‘I am teaching Lily, as Mum taught me, how to look good - and that includes doing as Gwyneth Paltrow and Apple do, and have expensive hair and facial treatments.

'My mum taught me young, and so I am teaching Lily young.'

And the single mum-of-one, who says she has been dubbed a 'cougar' in the past, says she is currently dating a younger man.

Jemima, who is a single mum and raised Lily on her own with Gwen's help, says her 16-year-old daughter keeps her on her toes.

‘Lily is full of opinions which I encourage and I let her wear my dresses because it means I can ensure she looks great,' she said. 'It’s not overly sexualising her.

'I will often borrow her outfits and I was walking down the street in one of her jackets the other day and her friends thought I was her. Not bad, I thought, for a 44-year-old mum.

‘I see her with her friends. I know what 16-year-olds are like and I’d rather she be open with me about what she is doing, borrow my short and sexy dresses, and look great, than feel she has to sneak around.

'I know without Lily’s gran I wouldn’t be as good a mum to Lily. For us, this Mother’s Day is about proving we have successfully bridged the generation gap and hoping other grans, mums and kids will replicate our relationship – each generation learning and helping the other.’
