Indie queens Gretchen Mol and Greta Gerwig are brilliant in black at the opening of the Metrograph arthouse theater in NY
Gretchen Mol and Greta Gerwig have both carved careers in the indie movie genre.
Each actress lent her understated yet enigmatic presence to the grand opening of the Metrograph boutique two-screen movie theater in New York City on Wednesday.
While Greta charmed in a basic little black dress and white-ridged loafers, Gretchen exuded old world charm in a high-collared and lace-accented black number.

Gretchen, 43, whose acting credits also include Boardwalk Empire and Mozart In The Jungle, added vintage black heels with delicate laces tied around the ankles and a black handbag with chain strap.
A slick of red lipstick brought out Gretchen's pale complexion that blended in with her light blonde hair pulled back in a simple bun.
The 32-year-old Greta looked timeless in her short-sleeved, form-fitted dress that stopped just short of her knees.
A touch of lace: Gretchen wore a black lace-accented vintage-inspired number
Work of art: Sofia Coppola looked comfortable yet chic in a busy-patterned blouse and trouser ensemble
Mingling: The Lost In Translation director caught up with filmmaker Jim Jarmusch
Black opaque stockings and comfortably casual footwear made getting around the arthouse movie theater all the more easier.
The Metrograph features a restaurant, bookstore and lounge, and kicks off with a list of cinematic wonders including Jean Cocteau's Blood of a Poet and Andy Warhol's Chelsea Girls.
Others who attended the event included Sofia Coppola, who began her career as an actress before finding success as an independent film writer, producer and director.
Red: Crosby Fitzgerald matched her fiery red locks with a sheer and shimmery top, blue patterned blazer and black trousers
Daring to be different: Actor David Cross wore a chip-inspired hoodie while filmmaker John Waters showed his independent streak in picturesque dress coat
Sofia was sophisticated and comfortable in a beaded black top over black trousers and black ankle-strapped heels.
As the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia has storytelling in her blood.
No doubt, the 44-year-old actress was excited to see the Metrograph open its doors.
James Marsden, John Waters and David Cross also made a point to attend, as did indie film director Jim Jarmusch.
Crosby Fitzgerald - star of 2012's short film Inside - was also in attendance, wearing a sheer and shimmery top with black trousers and a blue patterned blazer.
