So it was only appropriate Christian Bale had brought his queen of hearts to the glittering event in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The Batman Begins star was grinning with pride as he showed off elegant wife Sibi at the thrilling screening.

The 42-year-old hunk, who raised guffaws after scoffing on Girl Scout cookies at the Oscars on Sunday, looked smart but casual in a black shirt, jeans and leather shoes.

But it was Sibi, 45, who really stole the show in an chic black dress, which boasted buttons up the front, stilettos and a trendy leather clutch purse.

The notoriously grumpy Prestige beefcake looked like he was having a fabulous time at the glittering event, and went as far as to cross his eyes as her gurned for the cameras.

In 2014 the Big Short favourite's latest solo starring vehicle was pushed back to a limited release in 2016 despite already being in the can, perhaps no coincidence after it was lashed by critics.

The Terrence Malick movie follows Christian's Hollywood screenwriter character as he prances around a Los Angeles beach in an Armani suit, attends star-studded parties and get chased around hotel rooms by scantily clad models while despairing at the futility of it all.

The BBC's Nicholas Barber described it as a 'ludicrous self-parody - somewhere between a Calvin Klein aftershave advertisement and a coffee-table book about the modernist mansions of the rich and famous.'

Thankfully Christian does not have any such existential worries of his own however, as he is married to a beautiful woman, has sired two wonderful children and has an estimated net worth of $80 million.
