Sobbing Married at First Sight star admits being an 'evil b***h' to the husband she now 'cherishes' - moments before he breaks her heart by asking for a DIVORCE

  • Samantha Role, 30, told her husband Neil Bowlus, 31, that she wanted to stay married right before he admitted that he wanted a divorce
  • While Neil said he was 'amazed' by their journey, he ultimately decided that their bad times outweighed the good
  • Meanwhile, Tres Russell, 27, and his wife Vanessa Nelson, 27, both agreed to say married after six weeks together

The Married at First Sight star who fell for her husband after vowing to never consummate their marriage stormed out of the room in tears after he revealed he wanted a divorce after six weeks together.

On Tuesday night's episode of the FYI reality series, Samantha Role, 30, owned up to her horrible treatment of her husband Neil Bowlus, 31, before explaining that she had come to 'cherish' him over the course of the social experiment and wanted to stay married.

'I have learned about myself that I was an evil b***h when I first met you, and that I did not manage myself properly,' she said with an awkward laugh. 'If it wasn't for you coming into my life, then I never would have become this better person, understanding how to deal with issues like that for myself and also how to communicate them in an effective way and not a destructive way.

And while Neil agreed that he also learned lessons about communication during the social experiment, he wasn't as quick to gush about his wife - or his desire to stay married.

Throughout the episode, Sam made it clear that she wanted to stay married to Neil. When it was time for her to give her final decision in front of the experts, she noted that their time together had been 'difficult, but yet rewarding' because she feels she has become a better person.

'I couldn't have become this better person if it weren't for you,' she said. 'I think that the past few weeks that we've had together have been more ups than downs, and I think that to have some downs is normal in any relationship, whether you're friends or married or just a family relationship - but the positive have outweighed the negative for me, and I cherish you.

'I cherish you as a person, and I cherish you as my husband, and for that reason, I do not want a divorce. I would like to stay married.'

When Neil failed to respond to her words, she started to sob, explaining: 'What frightens me the most is that he's going to ask for a divorce, and I'm going to deserve it.'

End of the road: Although Neil said he was 'amazed' by their journey and the personal growth they achieved during their six-week marriage, he admitted that he wanted a divorce

Sam's tears prompted Neil to share his feelings, although in the end she may have wished it went differently.

'Like you, I'm still amazed by the journey that we've been on,' she said. 'The amount that I've learned about myself about you to see those changes has been remarkable, and there's no way that we would be where we're at now without being with each other.

'For me, there was a strong feeling that I had that something was missing from you, but it was a strong gut feeling that I had, and the big thing that I've been swaying on the past week has been the influences of the good, the influences of the bad, and how all that made me feel. And ultimately, thinking about it and speaking to the experts, it is clear, I am completely committed,' he said, making Sam believe for a split second that he was going to agree that they should stay married.

But then he added: 'I want to get a divorce,' prompting Sam run out to the parking lot and cry while she was comforted by the show's resident sociologist. Dr. Pepper Schwartz.

It had been an emotional few days for Sam, who fretted about what Neil's final decision would be. The night the couple were lying in bed together when Sam admitted that she was 'nervous' about his decision.

'I think that is a good word,' Neil said of his wife's description of how she feels. 'I wouldn't say my heart is pounding or racing at the moment because I think I am calm and collected in the way that I think about stuff, but nervous is good.'

Neil went on to tell the camera: 'Sam is understandably feeling more in knots than I am because she doesn't know how I feel.'

The compliance specialist admitted that he had a lot to think about because they have had many ups and downs together.

'Do you think we've had more ups than downs in the past few weeks?' Sam tentatively asked her husband, clearly hoping to hear a positive response.

'I think that's a ridiculous question. Absof***kinglutely,' he told her. 'Yes, of course. But there were definitely downs though, but that's been the struggle the entire week is that we gave a good day and then a bad day.'

Neil told the camera that just when he starts to lean one way, he thinks of something else and starts to lean the other way.

'There's internal things that I get hung up on every now and again, and its a matter of being able to get passed those,' he said, presumably speaking about how Sam emasculated and belittled him at the start of their relationship.'

Sam reminded Neil that in order to have a good  marriage a couple has to work through the ups and downs.

'I think it's how you work through the road bumps and the hiccups that come along that make a strong and long and meaningful marriage,' she said. 'And I think that being married to has helped me see that.

'I didn't really know what I wanted out of a person until I met you.'

However, after Sam's romantic declaration, Neil simply told her: 'That's good. Yeah, I have definitely seen the change for the best.'

He went on to remind her that no matter what happens between them no one can take away their experience together or the amount of personal growth they had achieved during their marriage.

Sam told the cameras that she never even considered getting a divorce when she signed up for this social experiment.

'I am in it to have a family and to have somebody who cares about me,' she said tearfully. 'I just think of my grandpa holding my grandmother's hand. I just don't want to be in a bed by myself ... with no one there that I love.'

Towards the end of the show's season, many fans wrongly deduced that the couple were still married because of how kind they were to each other on social media, but it turns out that they were just able to split without any hard feelings.

The day after Neil announced that he wanted a divorce, they managed to part on good terms. While Neil shared how terrible he felt about hurting her, she told him that she will be okay.

Neil stressed that he does care about her and would like to remain friends once they have both healed from their breakup, and she agreed. The two hugged goodbye before parting ways.

'My life will go on. The world does continue to turn,' she said.

However, there was at least one happy ending on the season finale.

While Tres Russell, 27, and his wife Vanessa Nelson, 27, were also stressed about the life-altering decision, they ultimately decided they are better when they are together.

On the morning of decision day, Vanessa admitted to the cameras that she is feeling anxious, explaining that 'decision day' was forcing her to reflect on what she originally wanted when she got involved in the experiment and what she wanted from her husband.

Vanessa told Tres that she is feeling anxious because it is a 'big deal', and Tres readily agreed that it is.

'Being married to Tres has been a wonderful time, and I definitely hope that it comes into fruition, but I really don't want to be hurt,' she said.

And while Tres said the 'experiment has been cool at times', it has also been 'stressful'.

'I didn't sleep much last night, and I have a lot on my mind,' he admitted to the cameras. 'I have been dealing with the good and bad.

'It has been a long six weeks, and with the decision coming up so fast, I want to make sure we cover everything and we have no regrets. I want her to be happy, and I also want to be happy myself.'

Both Vanessa and Tres have issues with abandonment, and he noted that 'worst case scenario' is that one of them wants to stay married while the other wants a divorce.

Tres went on to say that he hopes they can focus on 'all the great qualities in each other' and that the 'good outweighs the bad' for both of them, making it seem that he is leaning towards staying married.

During their car ride to meet the expert, the couple were as affectionate as ever, holding hands and chatting to calm their growing nerves.

When speaking with the show's spiritual adviser Greg Epstein and Dr. Schwartz, they both agreed they learned a lot about marriage and themselves. Although they both have a tendency to want to walk away when the going gets tough, Tres said it was something that they were able to work on together.

'I am really happy that we made it to this point, and I feel like we've done a lot of hard work together, and I think that we should be really proud of ourselves for everything that we've been through and that we've survived,' she told Tres. 'I think you're a wonderful person, but my decision is -  I would like to stay married.'

And unlike Sam's painfully awkward interaction with Neil, Tres quickly responded to his wife's announcement by agreeing with her.

'We've had our ups, and then we've had a few downs, but I definitely know that this has been a very stressful process for the both of us, and I appreciate you saying yes,' he said. 'I agree with you, and I want to give it a shot.'

The couple shared a kiss, and the experts were ecstatic about their decision to continue working on their marriage.

'I'm falling for her,' Tres told the cameras. 'I mean love is a strong and very powerful thing. I think we can get through anything.'

'Now that we have decided to stay married, our energy and our focus can all just be toward making the marriage a success instead of, "If I do this, are we going stay married?" or "If I do that, is he not going to want to be married?"' she said happily. 'He's stuck with me now.'

In the last days of the social experiment, Tres gave Vanessa a bracelet with the letter 'R' for Russell engraved in it, and when they arrived home he had a gift for his wife's dog Nola to celebrate the start of their new family.

'I feel like our marriage is beginning today,' Vanessa gushed.

During the finale, fans of the show also got to see Ashley Doherty, 30, and her soon-to-be-ex-husband David Norton, 29, have one last chilly exchange before they parted ways.

Last week, Ashley revealed to David Norton that she wanted a divorce after six weeks of marriage despite him sharing his desire to stay married and keep working on their relationship.

'There is love here, and it exists. I know it because I've felt it,' he pleaded with her during their meeting with the show's relationship experts.

'Maybe you haven't felt it, but I've felt it. You know that I want to stay married. You know that's my decision.'

However, his final profession of love wasn't enough for Ashley, who explained that she truly believed divorce was the best decision for the both of them.

'I think that you're a good person, and I think we did grow a lot throughout this process,' she told him. 'I definitely see why we were matched, and I never questioned that. I really tried my best, and I gave this my all.

'As hard as it was for me the first couple of weeks, I really wanted it to work. I think the best option for us is to get a divorce.'

When the two were packing up their belongings as they prepared to leave their temporary marital home, Ashley tried to talk to him, but it was too little, too late for David who finally gave up on his desire to work things out with her.

'I was chasing someone who didn't want to be caught,' he told the camera.
