It was a powerful performance which brought many in the star-studded audience to tears.

Lady Gaga set the Oscars alight when she performed the nominee for Best Original Song, Til It Happens to You - a song she dedicated to fellow popstar Kesha and to the millions of rape victims without a voice around the world.

But for record producer Dr. Luke, who is embroiled in a legal battle with Kesha accused of drugging and raping the Tik Tok singer, the performance hit hard.

Dr. Luke, 42, vehemently denies the accusations and is countersuing for breach of contract and defamation.

And according to Dr. Luke's sister the whole saga has been 'horrible' for her brother and is tearing their family apart.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Online Vezna Gottwald strongly defends her only sibling and insists he is a good man who is not capable of rape.

Vezna reveals how it is not only Dr. Luke's life that is being destroyed by the public maelstrom surrounding the court case, but the entire family's.

And she likens the growing number of A-list stars - which now includes Lady Gaga - who are publicly supporting Kesha to the Salem witch hunt.

Speaking from her home in Manhattan Beach, an emotional Vezna, 44, says: 'There is nobody shouting out for my brother and this has been very painful and horrible for all of us.

'What happened to anyone having integrity and trying to find the truth?

'It's incredible that anybody can just slander somebody who is a good man and they know nothing about.

'It is so difficult for him to fight back when all of these huge stars like Adele and Taylor Swift are coming out in support of her and it really is affecting all of our family.

'It's like the Salem witch trials, but we know who the real witch is behind all this.

'If this was a Disney story that my son was watching she (Kesha) would be the evil Cruella.'

It is so difficult for him to fight back when all of these huge stars like Adele and Taylor Swift are coming out in support of her and it really is affecting all of our family.

The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693.

The trials resulted in 20 people, fourteen of them women, being executed in one of the worst cases of mass hysteria ever seen in America.

A visibly distraught Vezna spoke out after a growing number of stars publicly backed Kesha in her fight against Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald.

The 28-year-old popstar, born Kesha Sebert, filed a suit against Dr. Luke in Los Angeles in October 2014 alleging he had drugged and raped her shortly after her 18th birthday and threatened to take away her publishing rights.

A video has since emerged showing the popstar saying under oath that the producer never drugged her or made 'sexual advances'.

But Kesha has since said she only said that as she felt threatened.

Dr. Luke maintains not only did he not rape Kesha, but the two never had sex.

Last week Kesha returned to court begging a judge to release her from her contract with Sony, but a judge denied her request.

Now stars have flocked to get behind the fast growing #FreeKesha campaign and millions of music fans are adding their support.

Adele became the latest big name to publicly support Kesha while picking up one of her four Brit Awards in London.

Tearing up as she accepted the gong, she said: 'And I would like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.'

Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to help Kesha's legal battle and Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus are among hundreds of others who have posted messages of support.

Hours before the Oscars ceremony, Gaga, 29, took to Twitter to reiterate her support for Kesha. '@kesharose I'll be thinking of u 2nite. This is not over we'll stand by u until you are free to live a HAPPY life. Everyone deserves that,' she tweeted.

But for Dr. Luke's family and friends the case is becoming dangerously one-sided and say stars should check their facts before supporting a case they don't know the full truth about.

One fellow female singer who is not standing with Kesha is Katy Perry. She is supporting Dr. Luke, who produced several of her hit songs including California Gurls and Teenage Dream.

Vezna, an artist, says her brother's career is being irrevocably damaged because of the allegations.

She tells Daily Mail Online: 'He has had to hire a crisis manager and he has not been able to go out of his own home.

'I have a four-year-old and Luke has got a four-year-old and a three-year-old and it is like the children are going to have to grow up with this hanging over us.

'This is the one time I am grateful our father died, that he does not have to go through it, because it is horrific and I am grateful that he is not around.

'It's a stigma that's so hard to shake off even when it is not true.

'It is so difficult for him to fight back when all of these huge stars like Adele and Taylor Swift are coming out in support of her and it really is affecting all of our family,' Vezna tells Daily Mail Online

'I was kind of like a mother figure to him growing up and he is the nearest and dearest to my heart, so I know better than anyone how ridiculous these allegations are.

'He can't speak out and he didn't want me to speak out because he thought I would get too emotional, but he is my little brother.'

Last week Dr. Luke tweeted: 'I didn't rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her. Kesha and I were friends for many years and she was like my little sister.'

But Vezna believes her brother doesn't have a voice.

I was kind of like a mother figure to him growing up and he is the nearest and dearest to my heart, so I know better than anyone how ridiculous these allegations are.

'I find it horrendous there is no other voice other than hers (Kesha) being heard,' she says.

'He is just not that sleazy producer that people are making him out to be.

'I am so proud of my brother and New York should be proud, because he is a New Yorker.

'He made himself who he is on the streets of New York. Do they so easily forget he is that cute boy that was the lead guitarist on Saturday Night Live for ten years?'

Asked what she thinks of A-list stars getting behind Kesha's campaign, Vezna says: 'Taylor Swift gave all this money, but it is such a shame that real women that have suffered and gone through that, don't get to see that money.

'She should have given it to a rape charity.'

Vezna says she loves her brother deeply, who she says, has a good heart. And she recalls the wonderful kindness Luke has demonstrated in the past.

'A few years ago he gave a single mom, who he doesn't even know, money for her child to go to college,' she reveals.

'He does a lot and gives a lot of money to Great Community, which is a charity for children that have cancer.

'Yet now there are so many people who have not worked with him over this past year because of this.'

She adds: 'Not one person is speaking out for him (Luke) and that's terrible.

'I've been thinking why doesn't Katy Perry stand up... she is his friend?'

Long-time family friend Elizabeth Freund who has known Luke since he was 11 years old also came out in support of the man she has loved for most of her life.

Elizabeth, who is also in the music business, says: 'Where Luke has wanted this to be tried is where it should be, in a court of law. Which to date has ruled in Luke's favor, as it should.

'It is unreliable as you can see to try this in a public forum, based on gossip, hearsay. But what is happening in the courts is based on facts that support Luke.

'I have known Luke for 30 years, I know him as well as family.

'Which is why this whole thing is so outrageous and has nothing to do with the gracious, kind, honest and loving, creative man that I know.

'This could not be farther from the human being that Luke is.'

Elizabeth believes that the female stars who have come out in support of Kesha are simply looking at the stereotype of Dr. Luke being a powerful male executive in the music business taking advantage of the talent.

'But that does not equate guilt, this man is wonderful,' she says.

'But he fits a stereotype, so without delving very far on the facts, people are responding more to a genre, a certain situation rather than the particulars.'

She adds: 'The thought of him abusing and raping one of his musicians is impossible, period.'

In his own defense Dr. Luke has pointed to the fact that he has three sisters, a daughter and a son with his girlfriend, and a feminist mother who 'raised me right,' he said, in a bid to bolster his claims of innocence.

Last week his mom also jumped to defend her son, claiming his protégé Kesha's claims of rape are 'lies' intended to 'blackmail' him.

Laura Gottwald, 70, who runs a high-end interior design company in Manhattan, New York, told Daily Mail Online: 'She's blackmailing him. She threatened to do it and she did it. 'It's all lies.'
