It is possibly the least surprising casting announcement of all time.

Dwayne Johnson has revealed that David Hasselhoff will, of course, be joining him on the new Baywatch film.

The Rock made the revelation on his Instagram account, as he spoke to the Hoff on a video call.

'Hey listen, I don't know if the world is ready for the both of us... are you ready?' The 43-year-old said to the mystery caller, before turning the screen round to reveal the original Baywatch legend was on the other end.

'Come on man, Rock and the Hoff - I was born ready!' the Hoff replied.

'He was born ready,' the Furious 7 star repeated, chuckling. 'There ain't know bay without the Hoff. Baywatch - get ready world.'

In the caption, the former WWE star said it was a pleasure to welcome 'the original #BAYWATCH gangsta' to the film, set for release in May 2017.

'#BAYWATCH is the most successful TV show of all time and from the day we announced we were turning it into a movie, "The Hoff" has been our greatest supporter,' he wrote. 'Especially once he knew our RATED R movie was going to be a combination of AVENGERS meets ANCHORMAN. 

The Rock revealed recently that he will be playing the role of Mitch Buchannon, first brought to life by the Hoff in the 90s show.

The Rock then cued 'slo-mo running and glistening chest hair', before asking himself: 'wait, why the f*ck am I even thinking about Hoff's chest hair!?'

The film also stars Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra.
