Let me show you to your seat Mr. Oscar: QANTAS presents Mad Max crew with special boarding passes for their Academy Awards after winning SIX statues

As of Sunday, it's officially Australia's most successful film at the Oscars.

And after cleaning up at the 88th Academy Awards with a record of six statues, iconic airline QANTAS treated Mad Max: Fury Road's crew as they made their triumphant return home.

Organising a special Oscar One flight from Los Angeles to Sydney on Monday, their golden awards were given their very own first class seats to travel alongside their proud owners.

The boarding passes, addressed to Mr Oscar, featured a special message in the Service Information section, which read 'QF Congrats Mad Max' - QF being the flight code for all QANTAS flights.

Next to where the class was specified, it featured a large golden Oscars statue.

The film starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy took home more awards than any other on Sunday night, but George Miller missed out on Best Director.

Halted numerous times amid the global financial meltdown and almost destroyed by hostile filming locations, the picture came close to never being made.

The fourth in the Mad Max franchise, fans had waited years for the film when it was released in May last year and critics have not stopped singing its praises since.

The previous record holder for Australia's most successful film at the coveted film awards was the 1993 film The Piano starring Holly Hunter, Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel and Sam Neill.
