Fashion heiress Allegra Versace who has battled anorexia for years goes jogging with her personal trainer in sunny Milan - complete with bright red lipstick

  • Allegra, 29, is daughter of Donatella and heir to the Versace fortune
  • Prefers to stay out of the limelight but made a rare appearance today
  • Was seen going for a job with her personal trainer in Milan park

Her family have spoken candidly about her struggle with anorexia in the past.

But Allegra Versace - daughter of fashion doyenne Donatella and Long Island-born Paul Beck - seemed to be putting her health first when she went for a jog in the park with her personal trainer today.

The 29-year-old fashion heiress and socialite was spotted enjoying the fresh air and sunshine in her home town of Milan - but she kept a hint of glamour with some red lipstick.

Allegra, who has spoken in the past about wanting to hide away from the public glare, was almost unrecognisable in a pair of dark oversized shades and a blue beanie hat.

She wrapped up warm with a black fleece, leggings and trainers, and seemed to be on good form as she alternated running with walking side-by-side with her trainer.

Allegra, who was said to be the favourite niece of her late uncle Gianni, has spoken in the past about how she went through a phase of anonymity following a troubled childhood.

However she is notoriously publicity shy, and her last big interview was in 2011, when she spoke about a 'period of absence' when she felt she 'couldn't confront reality'.

'Above all, I wanted one thing - to be no one, to not be recognised, not be hunted down,' she told La Republicca.

'I studied theatre, and it pleased me greatly to play parts in little independent films that perhaps no one went to see...

'Still, anywhere I went, I was Versace. I couldn't escape, and it did me harm. I hated Los Angeles.'

She explained in the interview how she relished earning her own money, often taking jobs that would see her take a back-seat role.

'When I was in New York, Rupert Everett played in Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, and I, behind the scenes, acted invisibly as a dresser,' she said.

'I still prefer the anonymity. I've spent some time working with a non-Italian designer, I've been helping him organise fashion shows, the advertising, also helping with the creative part. But the great part about this work is that I am no one.'

Allegra, who inherited 50 per cent of the Versace empire when she turned 18, was appointed to the board of directors in 2004, and is understood to have taken an active part in the running of the company.

Although she has never spoken publicly about her struggle with eating disorders, her parents released a statement in 2007 which read: 'Our daughter, Allegra, has been battling anorexia, a very serious disease, for many years.

'She is receiving the best medical care possible to help overcome this illness and is responding well.'

Her final interview also spoke about her close relationship with her uncle Gianni, who was shot dead in aged 50 in 1997 outside his Miami Beach home.

She said: 'For years I lived in the dark,' she told La Repubblica. 'I remembered little of my life before that terrible day. I even forgot what he looked like, and everything I felt about him.

'Then little by little the memories came back... emotions, flashes of happiness, and I was finally free of the emptiness that scared me so much.'

Allegra, who studied at Brown University and UCLA, has kept a low profile in recent years, but in 2014 she was spotted perusing the Versace store in Milan with Lady Gaga.
