Natalie Portman is the image of Jackie O in the iconic Chanel pink suit as they film pivotal Kennedy assassination scene

It's the Jackie O image that has been immortalised by John F. Kennedy's death.

And it was no doubt one of the hardest moments for actress Natalie Portman to capture, as she was seen emerging from an airplane, just as Mrs Kennedy had in Dallas on that fateful day.

The 34-year-old cut a strikingly similar appearance in the iconic Chanel pink tweed suit, as they recreated the scene at Easton Airfield in Maryland on Tuesday for the latest biopic, Jackie.

Black Swan star Natalie has captured the fashion icon's ladylike demeanour and effortless elegance for a Texas arrival that has become a symbol of the 1960s.

The suit was complete with all of the details: pillbox hat, gloves and handbag, and Natalie wore her hair cropped and polished in a mahogany shade, just as the First Lady always did.

The president, Jacqueline Onassis' husband since 1953, was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963.

Jackie was wearing the wool bouclé, the double-breasted, strawberry pink and navy trim collared suit when she climbed across the open-top car on the day he was shot.

Even though it was blood-stained, Jackie insisted on wearing it for the flight back to Washington, D.C. with the President’s body and during the swearing-in of Lyndon B. Johnson.

Therefore it's only natural that the 1963 assassination outfit is the one that is consistently recreated by actresses playing Mrs Kennedy.

Jackie was last played by Katie Holmes in the 2011 Reelz movie The Kennedys. The icon will reprise the role in After Camelot, which is set to begin production this year.

Jackie has also been played by Jaclyn Smith in ABC’s 1981 television movie Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy and Jacqueline Bisset played Kennedy in the 1978 film The Greek Tycoon.

Rob Lowe recently played the president while Ginnifer Goodwin played Jackie in 2013 TV movie Killing Kennedy.

The latest film, directed by Pablo Larraín, follows the former First Lady in the four days following her husband's death and Natalie has already been seen filming the funeral scenes ahead of its 2017 release.

On the cast, Natalie is joined by actor Peter Sarsgaard, who plays JFK's brother Robert Kennedy, though it's unclear who plays JFK.

The movie has been in the making since 2010 and was originally conceived as an HBO mini-series, with Natalie confirming her role back in May 2015.
