We've seen every kind of nail art from ombré talons to eggshell effect polish, and even a bizarre recent trend for furry 'werewolf' nails.

Now the latest craze to sweep social media sees beauty buffs sticking tiny rocks to their manicured fingers, with almost 5000 posts tagged as 'stone nails' on Instagram.

'This new nail embellishment trend has taken social media by storm, with pretty, delicate and tiny stones being added to your nails to make them look like shiny pebbles,' Edinburgh-based manicurist Katie Jane Nails told FEMAIL.

The latest craze to sweep social media sees beauty buffs sticking tiny rocks to their manicured fingers, with almost 5000 posts tagged as 'stone nails' on Instagram. Yuuriliyaah contrasted her bold red manicure with tiny turquoise stones.

Chihoasami_nail also mimiced a full stone effect. On a base of white nails with cracks drawn on she added accents of blues and purples, as well as gold flecks, and she topped off the look with miniature stones in shades of purple and blue

She added: 'I love the versatility of this trend as there are many ways to embellish them with gems and marble-like polishes.'

However Katie Jane said that although it might look easy to stick on the micro-stones, it's not as simple if you're not used to doing your own manicures.

'This nail trend does take patience and a steady hand,' she said. 'However if you’re not skilled with nail art, you could always take a few stones and gems to your manicurist to be added on to your nails.'

As they're not traditionally used in nail art, you're unlikely to find stones at your nearest beauty counter.

Sty_nail stuck almost transparent stones on white fingernails, which were painted with gold to mimic the effect of cracked rocks

Hush0706's nails nails featured marbles shades of turquoise and hints of dark red, as well as flecks of metallic gold, complete with stick-on stones

Nerochang went for a mash up of styles by adding a trio of mini rocks to just one of her fingers. On her other talons she sported gems and stick-on patterns including a cross

But Katie Jane said: 'You can easily buy them from Amazon, Hobbycraft and eBay or even from your local haberdashery store.'

On Instagram, Yuuriliyaah showed off her colourful red manicure, which she had accessorised with tiny turquoise stones.

KATIE JANE'S FIVE EASY STEPS FOR PERFECT STONE NAILS

1. Clean nails and paint with your favourite polish, or a blending or contrasting colour to match the stone.

2. Relax and let the polish dry thoroughly

3. Choose an appropriate size stone to fit.

4. Using a small amount of nail glue place your stone and hold until it doesn’t wiggle.

5. Add in any details, surrounding the stones or nail art foil to give a well finished professional look and add a top coat for extra shine.

Alongside them she added more turquoise stones, which she also dotted with hints of gold.

Aokosu went for the stone effect on her ultra pale pink nails and then stuck on some rather large pearlescent stones, that covered almost the entire nail

For another look Happymamassi rocked even more dramatic jewel-like stones that looked like rubies and amethysts

Zakuyi kept things simple by adding a green stone to just one fingernail, alongside a white and grey polish that looked just like her marbled phone case

Miyoshikaori threw subtlety out the window and went for a riot of colour, adding stonges in blue, grey and orange to her bright manicure.

Another French manicure fan Happymamassi spiced things up by painting one nail with pink glittery polish and adding a clump of tiny stones to another.

She also rocked the look again for another photo with even more dramatic jewel-like stones that looked like rubies and amethysts.

Zakuyi also kept things simple by adding a green stone to just one fingernail, alongside a white and grey polish that looked just like her marbled phone case.
