Simon Mayo

Former Radio 1 morning DJ Simon Mayo moves to Radio 5 Live from today for a revamped three-hour weekday afternoon show that will combine news, politics and sport with reviews of films, books and music, news quizzes and celebrity interviews.

Mayo, now aged 43 and therefore getting a bit long-in-the-tooth for Radio 1, will be following in the footsteps of another ex-Radio 1 DJ, Nicky Campbell, in making the intellectual leap to Radio 5.

With a degree in history and politics from Warwick University, Mayo says that he is looking forward to covering current-affairs issues, as well as conducting interviews with politicians and celebrities.

One of his first guests this week will be Sir Paul McCartney. Mark Kermode will also present film reviews once a week, while a panel of guests will discuss and debate the latest books and music releases.
