'I'm not blaming anyone... except society!' Lena Dunham backtracks after slamming a Spanish magazine for Photoshopping

It is safe to say everyone now is a little confused.

After being outraged and accusing a magazine of altering her body, seems Lena Dunham has realised she may have got mad at the wrong people.

Just hours after accusing Tentaciones magazine of heavily-retouching her body on their March cover on Monday, the 29-year-old changed her tune slightly.

Originally, the Girls star had demanded answers saying: 'This is not what my body has ever looked like or will ever look like - the magazine has done more than the average Photoshop. So if you're into what I do, why not be honest with your readers?'

But when the magazine posted an open letter as reply on their site saying the pictures came from an agency and it was put on the cover with no retouching.

The picture, the magazine said, was approved by the photographer Ruven Afanador, the agency and Lena's own publicist.

The photo was also originally published in 2013 in Entertainment Weekly and at the time there seems there was no issues with it.

Wants more: Lena said in more of an explanation than an apology that due to her age and perhaps also watching the focus on Hilary Clinton's body rather than her policies, the star wants to ensure she is as true to herself and fans as possible

Realising she may have shot the messenger, Lena responded on Instagram with the picture the magazine received that was cropped by them but nothing else.

It still does, however, seem that someone along the way edited the star's shape.

Lena said in more of an explanation than an apology: 'I understand that a whole bunch of people approved this photo before it got to you- and why wouldn't they?' I look great.

'But it's a weird feeling to see a photo and not know if it's your own body anymore (and I'm pretty sure that will never be my thigh width but I honestly can't tell what's been slimmed and what hasn't.)

Feeling herself: The retouching drama comes as the star also posted on Monday that she is feeling more comfortable in her skin

'I'm not blaming anyone (y'know, except society at large.) I have a long and complicated history with retouching.'

The star said her need to be real and fight for that loudly steams from both her age and hearing attacks on presidential candidate Hilary Clinton.

'I wanna live in this wild world and play the game and get my work seen, and I also want to be honest about who I am and what I stand for.

'Maybe it's turning 30. Maybe it's seeing my candidate of choice get bashed as much for having a normal woman's body as she is for her policies. Maybe it's getting sick and realizing ALL that matters is that this body work, not that it be milky white and slim. But I want something different now.

'Thanks for helping me figure that out and sorry to make you the problem, you cool Spanish magazine you. Time to get to the bottom of this in a bigger way. Time to walk the talk.'

The retouching drama comes as the star also posted on Monday that she is feeling more comfortable in her skin.

The Not Kind of Girl author shared a baseball-capped selfie captioned: 'As I grow older I become more comfortable with who I am.'
