Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara has previously hinted that there could be even more than three films to come.

He recently told the LA Times: 'Jo has a vision for this extension of the franchise, and for the first time, she is writing the script for what she believes is at least a trilogy.'

Fantastic Beasts is set 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter books.

Dressed in a tatty shirt and bow-tie, teal overcoat and shabby black bow-tie, Eddie can be seen in full costume as Newt - with the wizard even sporting his beloved Hufflepuff's colours on a wool scarf.

Director David Yates has revealed that the first film in the new magical trilogy will focus on Newt, Queenie and Porpentina Goldstein and Jacob a No-maj or muggle (a non magical person).

Katherine Waterston and Alison, who play Porpentina and Queenie respectively, are also seen in full costume as they share snippets of what its been like to work on J.K.'s first screenplay.

The film is set in New York City in the 1920s, 70 years before the events that occur in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Newt is the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a textbook Harry has to read while attending Hogwarts.

The book is required on the syllabus for students of Hogwarts and contains descriptions of 85 magical creatures.

Fans were given a sneak-peek when still images were published in Entertainment Weekly in November with one depicting Newt, along with his co-star, Katherine Waterston, who plays Porpentina 'Tina' Goldstein, his wife-to be.

In the shots, the leading character wears a dark blue coat, a mustard-coloured waistcoat, brown wool trousers and clutches a brown leather briefcase.

The magazine released a series of shots from the Leavesden, UK, set including one of the 'magizoologist' wizard kneeling beside a bench in what appears to be the Magical Congress of the United States of America, also known as MACUSA.

MACUSA, located magically hidden inside the Woolworth building, is the American equivalent of the Ministry of Magic.

In another of the newly released shots, Alison Sudol, who plays Queenie Goldstein, is seen with her wand mid-air, with director David Yates looking on.

Her character is the younger sister of Tina, and is a 'legilimens' - someone who can read minds.

The top-secret project also stars Colin Farrell as Graves, Samantha Morton as Mary Lou, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski and Ezra Miller playing Credence.

Ron Perlman and Jon Voight also have unnamed roles in the flick.

David Yates previously directed the final four Harry Potter films - Order Of The Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows parts one and two.

In 2001, J.K. Rowling released Harry Potter's copy of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook, with over 80% of sales benefitting Comic Relief.

Earlier this month, the author revealed that the American word for 'muggle' is 'no-maj'.

Daniel Radcliffe, who shot to fame playing Harry Potter in the movie adaptations, said that Eddie doesn't need any advice when it comes to taking on the role of Newt.

'No, I don't think he needs advice — just like, enjoy it,' the star told Entertainment Weekly. 'I don't think there's anything to live up to as well, especially because it's not like there's original source material which is a very strong narrative.

'You know, the book is really cool, but it's a bestiary. I hope he's really enjoying it and not feeling too much pressure.'
