'Give her some meat!' Shakira reveals she asked for her Zootopia character Gazelle to have 'bigger hips' because she was 'too skinny'

She is portraying Gazelle in the much-anticipated Disney movie Zootopia.

But even though her character is an animal that also happens to be a famous pop star, Shakira still wants it to be realistic.

The 39-year-old revealed to People magazine that she asked the film's animators to give the gazelle more curves.

'She was a little too skinny for me, so I asked them to give her bigger hips,' Shakira confessed. 'I said, “Come on, guys. Give her some meat!” And they did.'

In the trailers for Zootopia, Gazelle is shown performing as animals across the city watch her in awe.

She wears a typical Shakira stage outfit, in the form of a sequined red top and matching red fringed skirt - and her hips definitely don't lie.

Shakira said that her youngest son Sasha is a fan of the Gazelle doll she has - or rather, chewing on it.

'He’s teething right now, so he will chew on pretty much anything, but he enjoyed my Gazelle fringe skirt!' she told People.

As well as having a character in the movie, Shakira also recorded the song Try Everything for it.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, she said: 'It conveys a powerful message: Essentially be unafraid of the size of your own dreams and just fight against all odds for your calling and defend it.'

The Colombian beauty shared that her eldest son loves it, adding: 'I caught Milan singing the lyrics to Try Everything. I never actually taught him, but he knows it by heart! It was so cute. These are magical moments that are priceless to me.'

Shakira and her Spanish football player partner Gerard Piqué are parents to three-year-old Milan and 13-month-old Sasha.

Zootopia follows Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), the first rabbit to join the police force, where the officers are usually the bigger and fiercer animals.

And Rich Moore, one of the film's co-directors, said during a recent Q&A that Shakira immediately was on board with the movie once she heard the story, according to Cinema Blend.

He revealed: ''The one thing that really got her was, we explained the story to her, she said, "You know what, when I was a little girl, growing up in Colombia ... I wanted to be a cop, just like Judy, because I didn’t like bullies, and I didn’t like bad people doing bad things to good people. So, this story really speaks to my heart, I’m in."'
