'Deadliest Catch' star Capt Sig Hansen wanted to keep fishing for crab after suffering a heart attack on camera

Even a heart attack could not deter Deadliest Catch star Sig Hansen from pursuing tasty sea critters.

The reality star collapsed with chest pains while on his fishing vessel in the Bering Sea during the taping of the show on Wednesday and was rushed to a medical facility.

TMZ reported that when Hansen regained consciousness, he wanted to continue fishing for crab, but the Deadliest Catch production crew insisted that he seek treatment..

The show's Twitter account confirmed the incident on Wednesday. 

'Hey Catch Crew, we know there have been a lot of questions about Sig today. But we wanted to make sure we had all the info for you,' the show tweeted.

'@northwesternsig experienced chest pain at sea. While he wanted to keep going, the crew insisted that they dock to get help.'

'He was airlifted to Anchorage, Alaska, and immediately rushed to a medical facility,' it continued.

'He is with his family and in good spirits. Please send him your love and prayers.'

The 49-year-old was with his crew when he collapsed and passed out on the deck of the F/V Northwestern out in the Bering Sea with what docotrs later confirmed to be a heart attack,TMZ reported.  

His daughter Mandy Hansen shared a photograph of Sig siting up and smiling in bed. 

'Capt survived "the widowmaker"!!' she wrote. 'Beating a heart attack ain't easy. Welcome back boss.'

The health scare comes after the Discovery Channel show has been hit by tragedy over the past few years.

Skipper Tony Lara died in August last year, aged 50, after having a heart attack in his sleep, while Deadliest Catch producer Joe McMahon was murdered outside his parents' home at the age of 25 in July.

And fans were left grieving when Captain Phil Harris died at the age of 53 in 2010, after a stroke and heart failure.

The cameras followed him through his final days, and the emotional episode where he died pulled in a record 8.5 million viewers.

Deadliest Catch returns to the Discovery Channel on March 29.
