A group of New York artists were left shocked when the model posing for the life drawing class turned out to be rocker Iggy Pop.

But unlike his stage persona, which sees him give energetic performances, the singer posed very still in several different positions for the people drawing him.

The class was organised by the Brooklyn Museum and British artist Jeremy Deller, and the drawings produced will go on display later this year.
The artists taking part in the class ranged in age from 19 to 80 and included art students, as well as practicing artists and retirees.
And Mr Deller believes Iggy Pop was the perfect model, saying the American rocker's body has witnessed so much, it must be documented.
He said: 'The life class is a special place in which to scrutinize the human form. As the bedrock of art education and art history, it is still the best way to understand the body.
The rocker's modelling gig comes as he prepares to release his latest album later this month called Post Pop Depression. He is pictured above on Tuesday
'For me it makes perfect sense for Iggy Pop to be the subject of a life class; his body is central to an understanding of rock music and its place within American culture.

Earlier this year, Iggy Pop also said paid tribute to David Bowie, who died after a battle with cancer.
Bowie produced several albums for him, and said at the time of his death: 'David's friendship was the light of my life.
'I never met such a brilliant person. He was the best there is.'
