Winners: The Mad Max team touch down in Sydney on Wednesday (pictured from left to right are director George Miller's wife Margaret Sixel, makeup and hair designers Lesley Vanderwalt, Damien Martin and George
George, 70, looked pleased as punch with his team as he walked closely beside them while pushing a trolley of piled suitcases.
Lesley stopped and posed for photos with her Oscar before walking out to a nearby waiting vehicle.
She and Damien didn't let the valuables out of their sights as they continued to clutch onto the trophies as they negotiated large crowds.

Despite the long haul flight, the trio looked fresh faced as they dressed casually for their arrival.
George wore a pair of grey slacks and a black T-shirt and blazer, while Damien opted for a button-up denim shirt and deep navy jeans.
Lesley looked classy as she dressed in a pair of black slacks and a matching oversized blouse along with silver drop earrings.
She seemed to have glammed herself up following the flight as she applied bold red lipstick to her makeup.
Well wishes: For their flight home the team were treated to personalised plane boarding passes by Australian airline Qantas which read: 'QF Congrats Mad Max'
But while the team received a warm welcome in Sydney they were also treated to personalised plane boarding passes by Australian airline Qantas when they entered the plane in Los Angeles.
The boarding passes, addressed to Mr Oscar, featured a special message in the Service Information section, which read 'QF Congrats Mad Max' - QF being the flight code for all QANTAS flights.
Next to where the class was specified, it featured a large golden Oscars statue.
The film, starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, took home more awards than any other on Sunday night, but George missed out on Best Director.
Winnings: The film was recognised at the awards ceremony for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design and Best Film Editing
Fury Road was, however, recognised for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design and Best Film Editing.
Halted numerous times amid the global financial meltdown and almost destroyed by hostile filming locations, the picture came close to never being made.
The fourth in the Mad Max franchise, fans had waited years for the film released in May last year and critics have not stopped singing its praises since.
The previous record holder for Australia's most successful film at the coveted film awards was the 1993 film The Piano starring Holly Hunter, Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel and Sam Neill.
