When they first became friends they were two of the world's most successful athletes.

And while much has changed in the 40 years since they were in their prime, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Caitlyn Jenner seemed as close as ever as they indulged in a joyful Snapchat session on Wednesday.

The dynamic duo looked like they were having a great time as they cuddled up together at a social function as they took part in an intimate internet chat.

Arnold, 68, who was wearing a smart suit, started by saying: 'I'm here with my old friend Caitlyn here.' 

His 66-year-old sidekick did not want to miss out on the fun, as she added: '(We go) way back 40 years.'

The Austrian Oak then took command, saying: '(She's) a very good friend, wonderful person. We're having a great time schmoozing.'

Of course things were far different when the pair first met, as they were two of the world's most macho men. 

Back then as her alter ego Bruce, Caitlyn was officially the world's greatest athlete her powerful physique winning her decathlon gold at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Arnold was also in his prime, and was on his way to winning Mr. Olympia, the most prestigious title in bodybuilding, a then record seven times.

The pair have more modest aims when exercising nowadays, with keen golfer Caitlyn hailing the fact she now has her own personalised locker in the ladies changing room at posh Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California on Wednesday.

Terminator legend Arnold ended his short video on a highnote by smooching with a young marsupial.

The jolIy star said: 'I also love kangaroos. Look at this baby kangaroo its just a few months old.'
