Liam Payne gets back to reality during low-key food shopping trip with his mum following his silly selfie-sharing antics with girlfriend Cheryl Fernandez-Versini

The last week of his life has seen him at the top of the news thanks to his apparent new romance with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

So it's no surprise that Liam Payne wanted a shred of normality back in his life as he stepped out to grab a haul of food shopping on Thursday, giving his mum Karen a helping hand at her local branch of Sainsbury's.

The 22-year-old One Direction star went as low-key as possible, but he couldn't be missed as he loaded his groceries into his eye-catching £260,000 matte black Lamborghini.

Swapping drama for groceries: Liam Payne cut a casual figure as he headed to Sainsbury's for his weekly food shop alongside his mum Karen on Thursday, following the drama of his new romance with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini

The handsome singer looked casual in a pair of loose-fitting dark grey jeans and a simple blue jumper teamed with boots for his day of mundane errand-running.

He sported a light smattering of stubble, too, and also happily showed off the tattoo on the back of his hand while placing the orange carrier bags into the back of his swish motor.

Liam was spending some quality time with the other woman in his life - his mum - for the midday shopping trip, but not by his side was new girlfriend Cheryl, 32.

He appeared to be trying to put aside his and the X Factor star's actions from the day before, which saw them poke fun at those with an interest in their romance as they shared a bunch of pictures on their respective Instagram accounts.

It had all kicked off when Cheryl had shared an image of herself with a beaming smile, a man's arm around her shoulder, but it wasn't clear who exactly it was.

As fans launched into a line of questioning over whether the arm belonged to Liam, she then posted another picture on her timeline.

This time it was a cheeky photo of herself with Liam and two male pales, dubbed by her as her 'mystery man line-up'.

Liam followed this up with a cosy selfie of him and Cheryl together taken in the back seat of a car.

Their teasing antics came as Cheryl's estranged husband Jean-Bernard marked the one year anniversary of his father's death on his own Instagram timeline.

The former Girls Aloud singer's reported relationship with the 1D hunk came as a shock to showbiz fans last week, when it was revealed they had been spending plenty of time together and had even enjoyed a holiday as a newly loved-up pair.

And then, after talk of their romance, they appeared to publicly confirm their tryst as Liam changed his Instagram profile picture to a cosy black and white selfie of the two of them together.

But they have kept onlookers guessing as didn't leave the image up for long, removing it, reportedly due to Cheryl getting heavily trolled online.

She herself had changed her Instagram bio line to: 'All love. Good vibes only.'

Fans were left in a panic that their short-lived romance had already come to its conclusion, with many of them sharing their concerns on Twitter that it was all over.

However, following Wednesday's bizarre display of jokey affection, it seems that things are well and truly on for the pair, who first met when Cheryl was a judge on The X Factor and he was a hopeful singer with a big dream.

Having fun there? Just a matter of minutes later, singer Liam posted a snap of the pair in the backseat of a car, as he lay back in Cheryl's arms while gazing into the lens

At the time, Cheryl was 24 and Liam was 14, and now eight years later they have hit it off.

Meanwhile, the TV and music star is said to be reverting back to her maiden name Tweedy or her name from her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole, as her relationship with Liam goes public.

Sources told The Sun that Cheryl is ready to distance herself from the name for a re-brand, shortly after it was revealed she is romancing the One Direction hunk.

Cheryl married Jean-Bernard in July 2014 after dating for three months and while she opted to use his name for television and publicity purposes, she used the mononym Cheryl for her music.
