'He's projecting his own sense of failure': Ben Affleck discusses the Caped Crusader as he and Henry Cavill grace dueling covers for Batman v Superman

They will be pitted against one another in the highly-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice film.

And fans are getting a early preview of their face-off as Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are featured on dueling covers of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

The 43-year-old actor could be seen mask and all as the Caped Crusader as he opened up about the psyche of the iconic character going into the film.

Ben said: 'He’s projecting his own sense of failure, his own sense of disillusionment, his own cynicism onto Superman.' 

Henry, 32, also gave a look into the mind of his character by discussing the character's weakness as he explained: '[Superman’s] weakness is that he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. 

'He doesn’t want to scare anyone, and in that you can take advantage of him. This is someone who is a complete amateur, and he’s facing up against someone who is very well versed in the arts of war.'

The British actor looked hunky on the cover of the weekly as he rocked Clark Kent's signature combover while wearing his alter-ego's skintight suit.

Earlier this week, fans were pleased when a sneak peek clip from Batman v Superman aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live's after The Oscars special.

However hardcore followers had their eyebrows raised as the usually unarmed Batman could be seen wielding what looked like a rifle and fired it off at his nemesis.

Showdown: It was definitely a tense scene as Superman yelled: 'Stay down. If I wanted it, you'd be dead already!'

The dark video did not reveal a whole lot about the plot, or even why the two heroes are fighting each other, but there was definitely enough action to get fanboys salivating over it. 

After throwing a smoke bomb down, Batman could be seen with a big gun after distracting the Man Of Steel then fires off a round in the direction of Superman who catches it.  

Regardless of it is an actual gun or some form of weapon that fires an energy beam or something, it may be a little jarring for some hardcore fans to see Batman with a firearm.

As his alter ego Bruce Wayne's parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, were brutally gunned down in several depictions of the Batman origin story, the hero has always staunchly been against guns. 

Fans were up in arms in December when a trailer for Batman v Superman showed Affleck's character with a gun as he stood next to Superman and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) bracing themselves for battle with a common foe.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is set for release in cinemas around the globe on March 25.
