Reese Witherspoon sued by designer who claims logo for actresses Draper James clothing brand is a copy of hers

Reese Witherspoon is being sued by a clothing designer who claims the actress copied her copyrighted logo.

Jordann Weingartner alleges that the logo for Reese's Drape James' clothing line - a magnolia flower on a disc, with initials in the center - is too similar to the one for her I Love Jewelry brand.

The Florida based designer is suing for a portion of Draper James' profits, and to have Reese's logo removed from stores, according to TMZ.

Too alike? Weingartner copyrighted her 'magnolia' logo, left, in 2008, while Reese's logo for her clothing store Draper Jones, right, hit stores last year

Weingartner copyrighted her 'magnolia' logo for a 'distinctive six-pointed floral design' back in 2008.

Despite the name I Love Jewelery, Weingartner's business produces a wide variety of items, many personalised with initials.

Along with jewelry it also produces personalised clothing, which it sells from an online store.

Reese launched Draper James online in May last year and has worked hard plugging it.

Named for her grandmother and grandfather, the brand's Southern style has proved successful, and Draper James now has a stand alone store in Nashville.

Reese has said the inspiration for her business came when she was asked to represent other labels - and realised none of them quite got her style.

'I was being approached by a few East Coast brands to represent them,' she told Fast Company.

'I have been to the Hamptons only once. I haven’t traveled in the Northeast.

'What I know is Charleston and North Carolina and the beaches of Georgia. Tailgating. Sipping tea on the porch. Sunday dinners. Dressing for church. Those are the touchstones in my life. Those are the stories I wanted to tell.'
