The FTSE 100 at the close was up 68.97 at 6199.43. It comes as US stocks started to lift as jobs data showed stronger than expected growth in non-farm payrolls. European markets also held firm, with the Dax 30 index in Frankfurt up 0.3 per cent and the CAC 40 index in Paris ahead 0.6 per cent. But on Wall Street, after opening modestly higher, the blue chip Dow Jones Industrial Average reversed to shed 25.2 points at 16,918.7, while the broader S&P; 500 index fell 3.5 points at 1,989.9, and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite lost 11.1 points at 4,696.4.
