He's out! Derek Hough is quitting Dancing With The Stars after 16 seasons so he can star on Broadway's Singin' In The Rain

Derek Hough won't be a part of Dancing With The Stars next season.

The 30-year-old Cha-Cha expert is taking a break from the ABC competition show after 16 seasons to purse other dreams, according to UsWeekly.

First up is taking on Gene Kelly's role in the Broadway version of the classic musical. Producer Harvey Weinstein made the announcement at pre-Oscar party in Beverly Hills on Saturday night.

Also out is his sister Julianne, who served first a pro dancer then a judge (a returning Len Goodman will take her spot). She dazzled this year playing Sandy opposite the showstopping Vanessa Hudgens in the live TV version of Grease.

'I will miss being on the panel for season 22, but have a lot of exciting stuff coming that I look forward to sharing,' Hough told People magazine. 'The pro dancers, producers and crew at DWTS will always be my family.'

The show returns March 21 and Mischa Barton as well as Jodi Sweetin have been named contestants.

Singin' In The Rain debuted on London's West End in 1983, and is based on the 1953 film of the same name, which in turn is named after the 1929 Arthur Freed song.

Hough will play silent movie star Don Lockwood, who can't stand his co-star Lina Lamont, who believes that their on-screen romance is real.

When the first ever 'talkie' becomes a success, the producers of their latest film decide to convert to sound, which unveils Lamont's awful singing voice.

Having joined DWTS in season five, Derek is by far the most successful professional dancer on the show, having won six times out of 14 competitions, including the most recent season with Bindi Irwin.

Right before the party, Hough Snapchatted a video of himself practicing some dance moves with Heidi Klum.

Among the guest list watching him perform on the night were John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Lady gaga and Taylor Kinney, Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli, Bryan Cranston and Robin Dearden, Jared Leto, Nick Jonas, Andie MacDowell, Chanel Iman, Ashley Tisdale, and Naomi Campbell,

Zendaya also sang a song from the current Weinstein-backed Broadway musical Finding Neverland.

Singin' In The Rain opens in New York in January 2017.
