She's coming back! Madonna announces long-awaited return to Australian shores after last performing Down Under in 1993

In her impressive 30-year career as a touring artist she's only performed in Australia once.

But after a painfully lengthy absence of close to a quarter of a century, Madonna's Antipodean fan base have finally been given a reason to celebrate.

The pop veteran, 56, has confirmed that she will be making her long-awaited return Down Under as part of her Rebel Heart tour in early 2016.

Dates and venues are due to be announced shortly on the Like A Virgin hitmaker's website Madonna, but if her stint in the US and Europe are anything to go by, music lovers won't be disappointed.

The mother of four has already been scheduled to perform in 35 cities from Atlanta to Los Angeles in the United States and many of the major capitals including London, Paris, Prague and Berlin in Europe.

Dates stretch from the August 29, 2014 to December 20, with 'additional tour dates for Asia and Australia expected to be announced soon.'

It was also revealed that Madonna will be including a number of cities throughout Asia to the show promoting her 13th studio album.

Her popularity continues however, with the president of Global Music Arthur Fogel saying in a statement: 'Madonna continues to be one of the most successful touring artists in history'.

'Her shows are legendary and we are thrilled to have her going back on tour'.

Just last week the Material Girl's name was the hot topic on everybody's lips after she stacked while performing at the 2015 Brit Awards in London.

Failing to undo an elaborate cape tied around her neck before her backup dancers went to pull it away, she was thrown backwards down a flight of three stairs, landing on her back.

The internet erupted in horror as she fell, but she picked herself back up again and continued to sing her way through the song.

'I rehearse everything - everything, everything, everything - and I was thrown a wrench at the very beginning of my entrance,' she later told Jonathan Ross.

'I was told to tie my cape and start much further back than we had rehearsed so because I had to walk so much further, everybody was worried that my cape was going to slide off because it's quite heavy so they tied it really tight around my neck.

'So here I am marching in like a queen and I got to the top of the stairs and I pulled my silky string and it would not come undone and my two lovely japanese dancers basically strangled me off the stage. I had a choice, I could either be strangled or fall with the cape and I fell.'
