The latest Republican primary debate was filled with name calling and double entendres, but it was Megyn Kelly's eyelashes that once again dominated the Twittersphere.

The 45-year-old Fox News host moderated Thursday night's debate in Detroit, Michigan, alongside her colleagues Bret Baier and Chris Wallace, and while the candidates' heated words and shouting message provided plenty of news fodder, many commenters were compelled to take their own jabs at Megyn's 'fake' eyelashes.

'Megyn Kelly's fake eyelashes are bigger than Donald Trump's hands. #GOPdebate,' Ryan Gowland tweeted, referring to Marco Rubio's suggestion that his opponent's 'small hands' could indicate that another part of his body could also be undersized.

However, when it comes to the candidate's promises, Mark Dice felt it was appropriate to compare them to Megyn's eyelashes.

'#MegynKelly's eyelashes are as fake as #MarcoRubio's claims he won't give illegal aliens citizenship and voting rights. #GOPDebate, [sic]' he wrote.

Others Twitter users had fun sharing photos of everything from oversized spiders to Dick Van Dyke holding a chimney sweep brush while describing the journalists thick, black lashes.

'Dick Van Dyke waiting to apply Megyn Kelly's eyelashes,' Nell Scovell captioned a photo of the actor covered in soot and holding the brush, before tweeting an image of a giant tarantula terrorizing a city.

'One of Megyn Kelly's eyelashes got away!' she wrote.

And Twitter user Armstrong and Getty even brought up the fresh water crisis in Flint, Michigan, when bashing Megyn's eyelashes, suggesting that they could be used to filter the lead-laced water.

'Flint, MI should use Megyn Kelly's comically large eyelashes to filter their water. Might save lives [sic],' reads the tweet.

Megyn, who looked stunning in a simple white suit and small hoop earrings, played up her complexion with a rosy make-up palette, but some viewers couldn't look past her dark lashes.

However, the Fox News star is no stranger to internet fodder about her looks - particularly her eyelashes, which also took the internet by storm during the January 28 debate that was held in Des Moines, Iowa.

They have gotten so much attention that this time around a Twitter user named Fresh Brew noted that 'those things need their own Twitter account'.

Along with the relentless jokes and jabs inspired by the host's lashes, the ongoing criticism has also sparked a fierce debate on social media about whether she deserved such a bitter backlash - or whether the uproar over her make-up was a symptom of the same sexism that she has often tried to stand against.

But even those who support Megyn found themselves commenting on her appearance and offering her suggestions for avoiding anymore ire over her eyelashes.

'I hate that I’m commenting on #MegynKelly‘s looks but those #eyelashes. Is she not gorgeous enough? Next to those two schlubs? #gopdebate,' Christie Randolph wrote.

Meanwhile, Kay Merkel Boruff tweeted to Megyn that it was a 'great debate', she also offered her some advice.

Megyn's longtime make-up artist Maureen Walsh has been working with The Kelly File host for a number of years, and is often the mastermind behind her on-screen beauty looks, however, is unclear if she had traveled to Detroit to do the star's make-up this time around.

And although Megyn's eyelashes continue to cause a commotion on Twitter, this isn't the first time she has been criticized for her eye make-up.

Shortly after the now-infamous debate during which she first went up against The Donald over his seemingly-sexist treatment of women, Megyn faced similar social media criticism about her choice of over-the-top cosmetics.

'I skipped Rep. debate, watching lip synch now,' Twitter user Airbag Moments posted on the social media site. 'Why weren't Megyn Kelly's baleen-like fake eyelashes the main #trend?'

Earlier in his campaign, Donald took to Twitter to add more fuel to his fiery feud with the Fox News star by tweeting images from a raunchy photoshoot she took part in for GQ Magazine, while labeling her a 'bimbo'.

Sharing two racy images from the shoot, in which Megyn can be seen posing provocatively in a skin-tight, low-cut black mini dress and sky-high heels, Donald added the caption: 'Criticizes Trump for objectifying women... Poses like this in GQ Magazine.'

'And this is the bimbo that's asking presidential questions?' he tweeted.

Donald, who refused to attend the January Fox News debate because of his ongoing feud with Megyn, choosing instead to host his own fundraiser, didn't stop there.

The GOP candidate took the opportunity to further criticize Megyn again in an interview with Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, arguing that she was biased against him.

Donald has sent out numerous tweets criticizing her since last August, when the reporter tried to pin him down on allegations of misogyny during the first Republican presidential debate.

He bristled at the allegations during the debate, but really let fly online, shortly thereafter suggesting that Megyn was so hard on him because she was menstruating - a comment he later insisted had been misinterpreted.

However, despite their infamous feud the two managed to remain cordial - even when she forced Donald to answer questions about policy.

After refraining from asking him a question for the first 30 minutes of the debate, she brought up his immigration polices, prompting Donald to greet her by saying: 'Nice to be with you Megyn. You’re looking well.'

The Fox New host went on to force Donald to answer questions about his constantly changing political stances and lawsuits against his university, but this time around the candidate saved his insults for his opponents, calling Marco 'Little Marco' and Ted Cruz 'Lying Ted' throughout the debate.
