Sacha Baron Cohen reveals Liam Gallagher threatened to stab him in both eyes after an argument...as he jokes his Grimsby character's look is inspired by singer

His outlandish comic creations have sparked plenty of controversy over the years.

But Sacha Baron Cohen has revealed that not telling a joke led to a fiery argument with Liam Gallagher at a showbiz bash four years ago.

The Grimsby star told US chat show Conan this week that the singer was so angry at him that he threatened to stab him in both eyes.

The 44-year-old actor locked horns with the Oasis rocker at the GQ Awards after-party in London four years ago.

Sacha explained that Liam was annoyed after he failed to share his joke about the singer, which he had planned to tell on stage, during his acceptance speech.

The funnyman told Conan: 'So Liam Gallagher comes over and says, "Why the f**k didn't you take the p**s out of me tonight?"'

'And I said, "I just didn't get round to it", and he said, "Do you know what? I'm going to stab you in the eye." I've never heard such a specific threat ... Eventually he didn't stab me.'

Liam, 43, has since stated he didn't just threaten to gouge out one eye, as he was keen to take out both, with a representative for the singer telling NME magazine: 'Liam wants to clarify that it wasn't just the one eye, it was both.'

Sacha has insisted the two have made up in recent years, recently joking that he hopes Liam will be pleased to see that his character Nobby from his new movie Grimsby has been inspired by the singer's distinctive style.
