The figure was chosen as it matches how many hours a Premier League team plays over a full top-flight season.

Approximately 1,000 people took part in the charity game with Countdown's Rachel Riley playing for 12 hours.

Harry Potter actors James and Oliver Phelps were among a number of celebrities who took part in the event.

Newcastle legend, Shearer, who kicked the game off with a 12-hour stretch on Thursday, said: 'My back, my thighs and my knees are all in bits - but it was worth it.'

Former Welsh international Savage netted the opening strike four minutes into the match.

Speaking afterwards he said it had been 'challenging but amazing'.

He said: 'I'm very proud of 'Team Savage', there were times when I was sure we'd be taking that trophy home.

'Thanks to everyone for their amazing support which is what Sport Relief is all about, getting together to raise some cash and feel proud.'

Sport Relief takes place over the weekend of March 18 to March 20.
