Selfie super-fan Kim Kardashian well and truly put contouring - a laborious method of applying make-up to enhance features - on the map.

But in the fast-paced and fickle world of beauty, a new means of contouring is taking hold - and the Kardashians are behind it, of course.

The concept, which Joyce learned from Cocoa Brown founder, Marissa Carter, is a three step at-home tanning technique that uses a wardrobe of different self tanners to sculpt, silhouette and add luminosity to your skin.

Professional make-up artists and spray tanners don't just use self tan to add colour to the skin, they use it to sculpt their clients' bodies, add tone and definition to the face and body, as well as adding luminosity to the skin.

Speaking to FEMAIL about the quirky technique, Joyce said: 'It's all about sculpting the body to add silhouettes and luminosity to your skin. I use this technique on my clients all the time and it's so easy for those at home to do.'

Joyce, who is regularly seen beautifying the girls on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has shared her step-by-step guide to getting the look at home.

Joyce and Marissa have created a simple three-step 3D tanning technique that doesn't require your own professional makeup artist. 'Anyone can follow these three simple steps to achieve a tan that looks natural, will increase your body confidence and give your skin a luminous glow,' they say.

The first step is to apply a one hour tanning mousse to the entire body using a mitt. Joyce recommends waiting one hour for a light glow, two hours for a more bronzed look and three hours for a deep tan before rinsing the tan off in the shower.

The next step is to use a bronzing gel to sculpt the face and body and create a more natural looking tan. Begin on the face and using a foundation brush, apply the gel where the sun would naturally hit the face, which is the top of the forehead, tip of the nose, and the sides of cheeks. 'This will give the face a very natural, sun-kissed look,' said Joyce.

She suggests deepening the tan on the décolleté and down either side of the arms and legs to create an optical illusion, slimming the silhouette.

The third and final step is to use a shimmering dry body oil on areas like cheekbones and temples, collarbone and down the middle of arms and legs to give skin luminosity and glow.

As well as revealing 3D tanning as the secret behind her clients' look, Joyce opened her make-up bag to share the products she uses on the famous family.

The products she always uses on the ladies are Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess, Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadows, Ardell lashes, L'Oreal mascara and the Kylie lip kit.

She also swears by using eye liners on lips for a browner or more black lip, and using a shimmer oil on lips for sparkle.
