Beyonce takes Jay Z to cheer on Sophie Beem... the teen singer she handpicked to be the next big thing

Beyoncé was out in force to support her fledgling protege Sophie Beem.

The 34-year-old singer and husband Jay Z watched the up-and-coming singer perform at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood in LA on Sunday.

Beyonce discovered the 16-year-old New Yorker last year and signed her up to her new management company, Parkwood Entertainment.

Now Beem, who is from the Upper East Side, is gearing up to become the next big thing with a little help from Queen B. She is currently supporting Charlie Puth on tour.

Beem posted a selfie with Beyonce on Sunday after the show, with the caption: 'Thanks to the boss @Beyonce for supporting me tonight at my first show in LA! Such a special night!'

Earlier this year she released a debut single, Skyline, and collaborated with Fetty Wap on the track I Got It. She recently released her new EP.

Beem auditioned for the US version of The X Factor in 2012 at just 13 but didn't make it past the top 40.

Now, she has been taken under Beyonce's wing.

'I have the most talented female artist in the music industry as my mentor and teacher, like, it could not get any better than that! I still pinch myself everyday!' she told Tidal.com in a recent interview.

'One thing she taught me is her best-kept secret to performing: To run and sing on a treadmill daily. It builds your stamina so you can sing and dance at the same time.'

Meanwhile, it was a busy weekend for Beyonce, who performed at a  benefit for her four-year-old daughter Blue Ivy's school on Saturday.

She made a surprise appearance at the Center for Early Education's 75th Anniversary Gala at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, where she performed a short set accompanied by a group of backing dancers.

The Formation singer performed several of her own songs, including Crazy in Love and Halo, as well as her cover of Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.
